The Look for Less!: New Neon

Like many trends before, neon is ready for its second-coming. During Mercedes Benz Fall Fashion Week in NYC it stepped straight out of the '80s and onto the runway; eye-popping shades like hot pink, electric blue and bright orange showed up in sweaters, skirts, and perhaps our favorite: day-glow tights on the models at Zac Posen's show. But you don't have to wait until fall to start popping these colors into regular rotation. Here's how to wear it, without breaking the bank:

Know Your Limits. Neon's definitely not for the faint of heart, but a little compromise can make it far more universal. The key is adding flashes of neon to a sea of neutral clothing. This style is all about controlled pops of color, which can take shape in accessories like jewelry, sunglasses and handbags. You can also spice things up with a single neon garment, like a vibrant green cardigan over a neutral tee. The trick, however, is not to saturate yourself in neon hues-mixing is a no, because even though the roots of this recycled trend stem from the eighties, it's no costume party.

Nail It. Bright neon nails are this summer's best accessory and also one of the cheapest ways to incorporate the neon trend into your summer wardrobe. Seen all over the runway and red carpet on the likes of Rihanna and Christina Aguilera, punchy bright nails are the toast of the season. So we say save your black polish for the colder months and try out hot new shades like those found in Essie's 2008 Neon Collection.

Get Bright Eyes. While classic black Wayfarer sunglasses are being sported all over the country, it's those that dare to wear the '80s throwback classic in neon shades that really know how to make a statement. Whether they're hot pink, bright red or even two toned this is one hot trend that makes a bold addition to any outfit. At about $14 Urban Outfitter's Blackout Sunglasses in neon pink are the perfect pair.

Add Some Arm Candy. Whether it's a brightly colored clutch or a classic time-piece in an off-kilter fluorescent hue, throw a little neon on your arm or over your shoulder. We love Wet Seal's atomic yellow 3 Row Bobble Bracelet paired demurely with a neutral tee. At about $6 (or $8 for two) it's also a steal!
