The Loss of a Hero: A Tribute to My Father

May His Memory Live on Forever

Michael Mann
He was not the greatest of men to ever walk this world.
He like most had his faults, his problems, his short-comings.
There were many things he did not understand, computers were one of them.
Yet he was supportive of my dreams, not trying to hold me back.

He stood 5 feet 8 inches tall. Not too tall, not too short.
A jack of many trades. I looked up to him in so many ways.
There were times when I hated him. Times I despised him.
Times I flat out was afraid to cross his path.

Thirteen children he had in total, all but one older than me.
His favorite saying was "don't make me get up", when he was mad.
We laughed it off as children, but I'd give anything to hear those words again
Just to have one more chance to tell him he meant the world to me.

The scar from his loss is still fresh to me, not even scabbed over yet.
I try and be strong, holding myself together the best I possibly can.
Fighting back the tears and pushing down the pain
You only get one father and I deeply miss mine. Daddy, I love you.

I must go on. I cannot give up now. His memory will live on in me.

Tribute to my father, Luther William Mann Sr.
