The Lost Boys 2: New Blood & Old Blood Stake Claim in Vampire Sequel
Corey Feldman to Reprise Role of Edgar Frog; Corey Haim Drops Out of Cast
Let me preface this story with a story. Several years ago at a baseball card show at a local mall, one of the vendors was selling movie scripts. I found a script for the Lost Boys Two. It was about 100 pages long, obviously photocopied many times and held together with brads. I bought it, read it, somewhat enjoyed it and later sold it on Ebay. I could kick myself; I'd love to see if it actually was the basis for the forthcoming sequel. (I remember it was about a cousin of Sam Emerson, but that's about it.) I have The Lost Boys memorized, and it is still one of my favorite movies of all time. Many others like myself are getting hyped for the much-awaited sequel. Back to business....
An official press release from Warner Premiere dated September 3 stated the filming for the Lost Boys 2: The Tribe began in Vancouver in August. The movie is directed by independent filmmaker P.J. Pesce, and the screenwriter is Hans Rodionoff. According to IMDB.com, the film is presently in post-production.
The Cast of the Lost Boys 2: The Tribe
As noted above, Corey Feldman-who soared to fame after The Lost Boys and other 80s hits, will reprise his role as Edgar Frog in the Lost Boys Two. In the official press release, he revealed that he his thrilled to be paired up with Jamison Newlander again.
"I am truly excited to be on board for this sequel," said Feldman in an official statement from Warner Preimier. "After reading the latest script I genuinely believe we can deliver a sequel the fans can sink their teeth into. I also commend Warner Premiere on their choice to include Jamison Newlander. Edgar Frog has been laying in wait for 20 years to stake some more vampires and that is exactly what he intends to do with his brother Alan by his side."
In an exclusive video interview with Toxic Shock (link to video is available to the left), he told fans that he and Jamison are the only original cast members, and that this is not the first movie, it is its own movie-but he says the film looks good, the cast is good and there are plenty of new faces. He jokes in the video clip that everyone else died, but they could have had Chance in the movie, but he didn't write it-and that he did get Jamison and Corey Haim in, but well, "Corey is Corey" he and his wife Susie joke.
Aside from original cast members Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander, there will be more familiar blood- sort of. Angus Sutherland, step-brother to Keifer Sutherland, will play the head of the vampire tribe. Uncanny, since Keifer played the similar role as David in the first Lost Boys. Angus has been seen on Commander in Chief.
Autumn Reeser stars as Nicole Emerson. Reeser has been seen on The OC, as well as roles on various television dramas and comedies. Tad Hilgenbrink plays Chris Emerson. Hilgenbrink was in 30 Days of Night, but perhaps is best known for his role as Matt Stilfer in American Pie Presents: Band Camp.
According to sources, references to the first movie as well as cameos from the original Lost Boys will be seen in the sequel. With such a hot original cast, it will be interesting to see who makes an appearance-- will it be Jason Patric? Jamie Gertz? Keifer Sutherland? Diane Weist? Nanook?
It has been rumored that Corey Haim will also reprise his role as Sam, however according to Haim's official website, he chose not to sign onto the project. He issued this statement:
"Corey has made the decision to not participate in the sequel to The Lost Boys (Lost Boys 2: The Tribe). Although Corey wanted very much to participate for his fans, he would prefer to wait for a project he feels will do justice to the original Joel Schumacher film. He was attempting to move forward for his fans, but in the end decided that this project would disappoint them more with him in it than without him"
Maybe he'll make a cameo, at least?
The Storyline of The Lost Boys 2: The Tribe
Rather than in the boardwalk town of Santa Carla, the fictitious "Murder Captial of the World," the Lost Boys sequel is set in the surf town of Luna City, California. And rather than a crew of motorcycle-riding, rock-star looking vampires, the villains in this movie are surfers. The story revolves around sister and brother Chris and Nicole (Reeser) Emerson. (Not sure if they are related to Sam and Michael Emerson from the first movie).
The pair's parents are killed in a car accident, so they move to Luna City to live with their odd aunt Jillian- a familiar situation to the first movie where a divorce misplaces the family, who are forced to live with their rather eccentric, yet heroic grandfather. Soon after arriving to town, Nicole falls for a local surfer, who happens to be a vampire. Chris, with the help of the Frog Brothers, must save Nicole before she transforms into a whole vampire. I wonder if he'll utter a reverse of one of my favorite lines of the original: "My own sister! A g**-damn, s***-sucking vampire! You wait til mom finds out!"
Billed as a comedy-horror-thriller, The Lost Boys 2 is sure to be as enjoyable as the first with both scares and laughs. As we learned in the first Lost Boys, no two vampires go the same way (Death by Stereo, for example), so we'll see how the Emersons and Frogs nab the bloodsuckers this time around.
As of press time, the movie is slated to go directly to DVD.

I can't wait to see it.
Yeah- it was about ten years ago- flourescent pink cover with that looked like a 10th generation photo-copy- nonetheless, it was a script. Whether it was actual "fan fiction" or a script pitched by a real screenwriter, I'll never know. I am tempted to see if the old Ebay records are still there....
