Actor Corey Haim, 38, was found unresponsive in his mother's North Hollywood apartment and died of an apparent drug overdose at about 3:40 a.m. According to TMZ, police were called to St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank to investigate shortly before 4 a.m. PST.

Haim shot to fame in the 1980's when he starred as Sam in the hit movie 'The Lost Boys' alongside Jason Patric, Keifer Sutherland, and Corey Feldman.

Haim was often paired with Feldman and the duo were in eight films together: 'The Lost Boys', 'License to Drive', 'Dream a Little Dream', 'Blown Away', 'Last Resort', 'Dream a Little Dream 2', 'Busted', and 'Lost Boys: The Tribe', which went straight to DVD in 2008.

Haim and Feldman were also on the A & E series 'The Two Corey's.' However, the show was canceled after two seasons due to Haim's continued drug use.

Corey Haim struggled with drug addiction for some time, ruining his career. He had entered rehab at least 15 times and in 2001, he suffered a drug-induced stroke.

According to IMDb, Haim said he "was working on The Lost Boys when I smoked my first joint. But a year before that, I was starting to drink beer on the set of the film Lucas."

He went on to say that he "did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack. I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day - the doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the Valium - I'm not talking about the other pills I went through."

Haim's recent projects - 'New Terminal Hotel' and 'American Sunset' - were completed at the time of his death.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, drug overdoses are the "second-leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States."

Nice reporting. Shocked to hear of his death, even though drug use had been noted for years.

Good reporting, Kenzy. Sad news. Corey was a favorite of my kids in the Lost Boys.
