The Lost Boys Was Lost on Me
It Might Have Been Good in the 80's but the 2000's Say Its Longevity is Very Much Lacking
The Lost Boys has its funny and amusing parts. Mostly however it is just plain boring and cheesy. It reminds me of most things that I hate about movies in the 80's.
The lack of style in the clothing(Many bright colors that don't match and polka dots with stripes) as well as plots that are overblown. This movie was full of over exaggerations, bland dialog (except for Keifer dialog), super cheesy, and an ending that is predictable.
The Story
Money problems force a recent divorcee and her two sons Mike and Sam to move in with her father in Santa Carla a town in California. At first, Sam the younger son laughs at rumors that vampires are in the small town. But after Mike meets a rather attractive girl at the local amusement park, after spending some time with her he starts to exhibit the classic signs of a vampire.
Having fear for his brother's well being, Sam recruits a couple of teen vampire hunters, to save his brother by locating and annihilating the head vampire.
Scary?
The Lost Boys was mildly scary. Very few times did you feel horror from the screen. If you rid all expectations that this movie should be scary, it actually becomes a better movie. The movie was filled with fair special effects for it being made in the 80's.
Something that I did like, was the fact that the vampires looked in this movie different and not like the typical look. They looked a whole lot more gruesome, menacing, and sadistic. The "Look" of the vamps leaves you wishing that "The Horror" would have been as good.
Oh what a Star
Jami Gertz plays the love interest of Mike called Star. She was beautiful, alluring, interesting, and then a minute passed and it all went away. As the movie continues she has nothing more to offer than a purty face and bland dialog to go with it. In most scenes she speaks very uninspired.
The Frog Brothers
Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander play the Frog brothers. Most of the few funny lines derive from them. Their characters were of the top, and it was a good thing.
They were the comedic relief and unlike most things in this movie.. they did deliver.
Kiefer Sutherland
Most of the movie made me feel pure apathy. The only thing that interested me was Kiefer. Playing the character of David, he was a breath of fresh air, in a smoke filled room. He created a character that we loved to hate, a mysteriously ruthless vampire with no heart and all fangs.
Dull and Delirious
Watching The Lost Boys makes you feel like you just lost a piece of your time that you wish you could have back. Unless your a huge Kiefer fan or vampire fan, then you should steer clear of this. It's a dull movie that will leave you delirious.

Post a CommentI enjoyed the movie. I love good vampire movies. Although it did have some corny parts, it was very entertaining.
Although I have to disagree with the review... it was written very well, so I have no problems with the authors opinions... I also have to say that Ledo - people are entitled to their own opinions, there is no need to name call. It just makes you look ignorant.
Gee, what was Jack doing as a vampire? Kiefer, we like you much better in "24." That maggot-eating stuff was just too gross!
