The Lost Trust

Donna Cavanagh
We have lost trust; it's easy to see why
Those around us have let us down
Their greed was brazen and knew no limits
They soared to the sky while we were stomped on the ground

Who would blame us for losing hope?
When human beings toss away what is kind
Some so easily blot out suffering from their hearts
Their mantra becomes out of sight; out of mind

The greedy will fall; it will take time
And the human soul will recapture its voice
Decency, compassion will find their way back to our hearts
And our spoken word again will be the contract of choice

Our worst mistake would be to give up on humanity
If we toss in the towel, no justice can return
We will get back the trust that was stolen and lost
If we keep close to our hearts the lessons we had to learn

We can't lose trust in the innate goodnes of man! Too bad all we hear about is the bad news, as man is basically good!
