The Loveable Toy Poodle

When I was younger my mother gave me my very first pet, a cute toy poodle, which I named Cricket. She was shiny black in color and so tiny. Cricket had big brown eyes, a small turned up nose, and she was highly intelligent. I loved her so much. Let me tell you a little bit about toy poodles.

The toy poodle is a type of dog that is small, alert and will become part of the family when you welcome it into your home. Toy poodles can be black, white or brown in color. True toy poodles are not going to be multi colored or mixed breeds. The hair on the toy poodle is curly, very curly and sometimes shaved over some of the body to keep the hair from becoming messy. Toy poodles have long floppy ears and at times they look a bit too long for the tiny head that this small dog has. Some toy poodles are bred for show and with the right assistance can win all types of prizes and awards for their owners.

If you take the time to train the toy poodle it will not bark as much. The toy poodle that is trained just to bark at strangers should do well when you have guests and when you are at home and someone comes to your door. The puppy that is given interaction with children will probably learn not to bark or bite little children and should play along with a ball, play fetch, and go for very fun walks.

Toy poodles are known for being smart, and intelligent. They are highly reactive to their owners, listening closely to commands. The toy poodle that is ignored will seek the love and companionship of some other dog, or another person in the home. You should give this kind of dog a lot of care and interaction with children while they are small puppies. This will help prepare the dog for a wonderful family life that will be social and happy with the whole family.

The toy poodle gets its name for being a small and nearly fake looking dog. The toy poodle will grow to be almost ten inches high and will weigh just a little under ten pounds and for a dog that is pretty small. Because the toy poodle grows to be just about ten inches high, it is very important for it to be groomed well, and to continue to keep its hair cut, because mud, rain, and puddles can make knots and mess in the toy poodles curly hair if not properly maintained.

The toy poodle can be bred to be pure or mixed with different types of dogs and other types of poodles. The curly hair that the toy poodle has can be long when it is mixed with a longhaired dog, and it can grow to be taller if it is mixed with a dog that is taller than the small poodle commonly known as the toy poodle.

Toy poodles make great companions. My toy poodle Cricket did and if you decide to own one, I know that your little toy will too.
