The Lovely Bones is Lovely

I love to read and go to the movies. Therefore, I enjoy seeing movies that are based on books. I will say that some movies based on books do the books justice and some don't do them justice. I have read The Lovely Bones and I saw the movie with friends from a library book club. I believe that while the movie was a bit different than the book, the movie was excellent and did the book justice.

The actors that stand out are Stanley Tucci as Mr. Harvey, Susie's killer, Mark Walberg as Jack Salmon, Susie's dad, and Saoirse Ronan as Susie. Stanley Tucci is creepy and might give moviegoers nightmares. He will probably get an Oscar nomination for this role. Mark Walberg plays an obsessed father out to get his daughter's killler to a tee. Moreover, Saoirse Ronan was great as Susie Salmon; she has a bright future as an actress.

The visuals in The Lovely Bones are stunning. When Susie dies, she goes to a middle world before heaven. The gazebo scenes scenes are colorful and magical. This movie should also get some Oscar nominations for the technical categories. Plus, The Lovely Bones has a very large crew that worked in both Pennslyvania and New Zealand; they deserve a hearty round of applause for their technical mastery in this film.

The Lovely Bones isn't a movie that I would have seen on my own because the subject of a child's murder isn't my cup of tea. However, I like Stanley Tucci as a actor and I enjoyed the book. It also helped that I went with a group of people who love books and movies too. We got into a great discussion of the movie versus the book and child safety. We gave The Lovely Bones and 4.3 out of 5. Therefore, The Lovely Bones is a lovely movie. Source: The Lovely Bones 1/24/2010

Great review. The book was spellbinding, will probably go to see the movie.
