The Loving Wife

L. Lee Scott
"Reading again?" he asks,
Though he doesn't see the title.
"You'll fill your head with stories
Whose ideas you can't grasp."

She smiles sweetly at him,
"Just killing time, my darling,
Until you came home.
Shall I cook your favorite food?"

He sits in comfort and watches
As she moves about the kitchen
In a graceful ballet,
No movement wasted.

She thinks, as she smiles,
That some day, maybe soon,
She'll wait and read no longer --
But take her books and go.

This poem is very good. I wrote a short story about the same subject a while back. It was called, "A Rude Awakening"!

Ha! He's better hope she isn't reading 'Lady Macbeth of Mtensk District' or he'll find the dinner smelling more almond-ish than he'd like! ;o) You really make it easy to see the scene just reading your word, matie. That's talent! :o)
