The Mac Attack on WFNZ

Randy Inman
This is a review of "The Mac Attack with Jim Celania" on WFNZ "The Fan" out of Charlotte North Carolina. "The Mac Attack" is a morning sports show running from 6 am to 10 am on Monday through Friday on WFNZ. This review comes about a year after I interviewed Chris McClain right before this show debuted. To read my interview with Chris McClain click this link.

The "Mac Attack" is hosted by Chris McClain and Jim Celania who had been a fixture in local sports TV markets for years before joining sports radio. The guys are assisted by Travis "T-Bone" Hancock and Collin Hoggard who are the producers/call screeners for the show. I happen to think T-Bone is the best call screener WFNZ has due to his friendliness and the fact that he knows who I am from Facebook lol.

Collin is a huge UNC fan and T-Bone is a Duke fan which makes things interesting in basketball season. Both will fight to the death or even longer to defend their respective teams. As you can read here college basketball is serious business here in North Carolina.

My favorite part of the "Mac Attack" is the email segment at the end of each show. People often pretend to be celebrities sending emails to Mac. I am usually Al Davis but my best one was when I sent one as Julius Pepper's colon.

The show has its share of good interviews with Steve Smith and other Panthers players. I also enjoy the segment on Wednesdays at 8 am in which Mike Florio from Profootballtalk.com calls in with NFL rumors. Florio and Steve Smith have a running feud which was brought to life on the "Mac Attack".

Chris McClain is of course Mac from the "Mac Attack" and is a UNC fan in basketball, Ravens/Panthers fan and a Penn State fan in college football. Mac also claims to pull for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and takes lot of abuse for that.

Jim Celania is a Panthers and Indiana (college) homer but does not take his fanhood to the extreme like Mac. Celania is the elder statesmen of the show and I love to hear him talk about his days of covering the Oakland Raiders in their heyday.

Some of my favorite callers to the "Mac Attack" are Chevin, Cowboy Mike, Robin the Duke Fan, and my buddy Jersy Mike Jr. who also is a writer and you can see his work here.

If you happen to be in the Charlotte area and want to hear the best sports radio in the city check out the "Mac Attack". Of course you can also listen from the WFNZ Web site.
