The Magic of Autumn

Donna Cavanagh
The autumn weather holds a magic
It is a calming balm on the summer heat
The crisp morning air recharges the mind and spirit
The oppressive humidity is beaten down in defeat

All nature responds to the cooler mornings
Birds seem to flit effortlessly through the air
Even my dogs possess a new bounce in their step
The squirrels see it too; they know to beware

My favorite part of the autumn mornings
Is holding a hot coffee mug between my palms
Taking in the majesty of the bursting fall colors
No frenzy in my mind; I feel only calm

What is it about the autumn season?
It brings solace even though the daylight disappears
We look to the fall for relief and comfort
The beauty of the season seems to squelch old fears

Sandwiched between the scorching summer
And the bitter wind of the winter cold
Lies the autumn season and its magical presence
Bewitching us with a dazzling array of colors so bold
