The Magic in Mineral Water

T.C. Hana
Water intake is good for everyone, and our doctors have been telling us for years to drink more water. Water is odorless, tasteless, and helps keep our body hydrated and in good working order. Without water we would not be able to keep our kidneys flushed and keep toxins running out of our system which could in turn cause us to have an infection or other problem. Fresh, filtered water is best, but there is also another type of water that is not used often enough; mineral water.

Mineral water is also referred to as sparkling water, and there are two popular brands that grace the shelves at the grocery store; Perrier and San Pelligrino. I personally have tried Perrier and love it, but the San Pelligrino has a little less kick to it. That kick I am talking about is carbonation. Mineral water is bubbly, because it has some carbonation in it.

The thing I like about the mineral water is that it is good for you, and it can help you break the habit of drinking soda. My husband is a Coke fanatic, and with the help of mineral water and its carbonated nature, he was able to get off of Coke within three weeks. He wants to be healthier, but he claims without the bubbly water he wouldn't be able to do it. All in all, he likes being able to drink water but get his carbonation fix.

Mineral water is also good to help settle the stomach, especially when you are watching your diet and soda intake. About a year ago I was on the HCG diet, and while on the diet my stomach was upset one day when I caught a touch of the stomach flu. I broke the diet one day when I grabbed a coke to settle my stomach, not knowing that mineral water had the same effect. I called my holistic doctor and he let me in on a little secret; there is nothing in Coca-Cola that can help you feel better other than the carbonation making you belch which relieves the gas and tightness in the stomach.

I love that we can use something else, because I am getting ready to participate in HCG again. While I drink almost nothing other than filtered water, I do take in herbal teas and now I use mineral water on a regular basis. When I have heartburn or have an upset stomach, the mineral water works wonders. So, the next time you go to the store, take a look around and check out Perrier. Drink it cold, add a little lemon, or make it however you like. You are sure to love your new bubbly without alcohol or added sugar!
