The Magpie

Vom Ica Poe'Ta
The Magpie
Delicate sound of a breeze; a brush on canvas;
a tiny leaf drowns.
In the valley on a night in spring
a delicate thing destroyed.

Another night, I saw in a tree
two magpie wings
building as ferociously as waves
yet as delicate as petals.

I ran to observe them,
hoping to understand their restrain,
to study them, as I covet them,
and aid their full escape.

But I tripped on a root,
blood twisting each knee-
and I knew I was without help,
without coterie in nature's kingdom for ever.

And the magpie dove away from my blunder
with a new fab and regal authority,
and every flower and bush on the mountain was heard rustling,
every one swaying, except myself bowing on hands.

Delicate sound of a breeze; a brush on canvas;
legs, leaves, and roots ruined;
a spring night; a magpie soaring.
Such fierce jealousy to their estranged bedlam.

    I don't believe I have seen or heard a magpie! I enjoyed your poem!

    Understanding nature is outside the grasp of many of us, but we are better for the effort!

    Very nice, though on the rare instances I recall having heard a magpie, there was nothing particularly gentle or soothing about its sound.... Perhaps I just encountered a loud-beaked one!

    When we are camping in the woods, the rawness of nature always engulfs my soul :) cheers
