Heart disease is a stroke risk factor, because of atrial fibrillation which causes an irregular heartbeat which increases risk of a stroke. A heart attack is a major cause of death in stroke survivors.
TIAs is a mini stroke that lasts a short time like five or ten minutes, and then goes away without causing permanent damage. TIA's happens when a blood clot temporarily clogs an artery, and part of your brain doesn't get the blood it needs.
Warning signs of TIA's
Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
Sudden, severe headache with no known cause
Carotid artery disease is a risk factor for a stroke. It happens when the carotid artery is narrowed by a fatty buildup of plaque that may become blocked by a blood clot, which can cause a stroke.
