However, that is not to say that there are not any legitimate, data entry opportunities available online. Finding the ones that are legitimate is just like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. As someone who was actively seeking legitimate opportunities for several months, I'm very sad to say that I have not been able to find but one. This one particular company had a six-month waiting list, and the pay was simply lousy. The compensation plan offered was seven dollars per hour, if you were able to enter 80 to 100 words per minute.
The first requirement to work with this company was to sign up, and pay a one time upfront fee. Once this money had been paid, you would then be allowed to go into the member's area. And lo and behold, what you actually found out when you logged in was that this company was only giving you the opportunity to promote the same program that you had paid your good money to sign up for. Disappointing is in it?
Upon further analysis, you would be disappointed to find out that this company was not really a data entry job, but some type of scam that induced you to pay your money up front, and only the only thing that you got in return was the opportunity to get more people to sign up for the same. There is only one way for you to make money with this program, and that it is to trick another person into buying the same product through your advertising method of choice.
By now, you probably have enough information to make you want to definitely avoid any type of Online Data Entry jobs, especially the ones that require you to pay before they offer you the opportunity. This should be a dead giveaway. Many of these companies often give themselves away by the sales page. This in of itself should be enough to let you know that something fishy is going on. As a matter of fact, lots of data entry scams use the same written testimonials, swapping out the different photos from time to time. They must think that most people are either lazy or just stupid to not notice this.
In closing, here are several tips that will help you recognize a legitimate opportunity:
1. If it is legitimate, they will never ask you for any upfront money. A lot of companies try to disguise this by stating that the upfront money is actually an application fee. This is hogwash!
2. All legitimate Internet companies will ask you to provide them with a copy of a W9, and will never ask you for any upfront money.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Run for the hills holding your wallet!
