The Male's Role in Weddings - What I've Learned so Far

MikeBabjak
So I'm getting married next May and with that commitment comes all of the planning for not only the entire Wedding Day, but the honeymoon, rehearsal dinner, etc. etc. I made it clear to my bride to be that I was very interested in being involved with most aspects of the Wedding as I generally do want to be involved, but also did not want her to get stressed out over all the little things that come up while planning such an event. If I'd only known what this would have started I would have never opened my mouth!

Things started great at first! We were able to book the Church and Reception Hall within a few weeks of our Engagement. She had already picked out her dress and Brides Maid dresses as well! I had the style of Tux I wanted as well as what my Groomsmen would wear. The Bridesmaids and Groomsmen were already picked out too! Photographers, caterers, florists were in line and ready to be met with and everything was going very smoothly with no problems whatsoever! Then I started to think.....HEY! I'M DOING ALL THE WORK HERE!

Now let me stress that I did NOT do ALL the work, but I DID do ALL the ground work. I spent hours upon hours of time on the phone and internet researching reception halls, photographers, gifts for the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen, and well, just about everything! Days and Weeks I spent lining up all the info and making contacts into one neat little book of papers for US to go over. Little did I know that I would not have the final say in anything else from here!

It took me weeks to get this put together and it seemed like the next week after I finishes, she finished too! Everything was done, set in stone and ready to go! It turns out that she know exactly what she wanted from the start and needed me to do all the foot work so all she would have to do is make a few phone calls to make everything final! All that work and I had NO final say in any of the planning!

Now, don't get me wrong, when it comes to Weddings I know it is the Brides day and it should be exactly how she wants it, so in the end I had no problem with her making it how she wanted it to look, and I'm glad I made it easy for her to make all the final decisions, but if I'd known all the hassle I would have had to go through all of that work and research to have NO say in anything, I would have kept my mouth shut from the beginning!
