The Many Advantages of Computer Aided Manufacturing

Anonymous
Today, Computer Aided Manufacturing machines are used with computers and computer software in manufacturing. They are used to manufacture custom products as well as multiple copies of the same product. This change has been taking place slowly over the last 25 years and represents yet another application for the quickly progressing technology that exists in today's world. One side effect of this change is that if those who work in this industry wish to remain competitive, they must be certain that they know how to use these new methods. If they cannot use these new methods, the likelihood of their continued success becomes considerably less.

If an employee is forced to work for twenty or more hours in one day, especially if they are must repeat the same task for such a long period of time, they will become tired and make mistakes. The machines available to perform manufacturing functions do not get tired. Because of this, the likelihood of mistakes being made is greatly decreased. CNC machines that are used for milling can perform the same task with great accuracy a nearly infinite number of times. However, jobs are still available in these industries as the machines must be programmed and maintained properly.

Robots can be put together in assembly lines and used to manufacture complicated products as well. The advantage of using an assembly line is that it allows each machine to do only one job and, in doing so, increases the accuracy of the work and the speed at which the work can be done. While this will decrease the amount of people a business needs on its payroll, an employee will still be needed to make sure that the technology works as it should. Loading products and unloading products is also a job that a manufacturer will still need to hire someone to do.

These machines do have one downside: price. A CNC machine is an investment that can often require as much as $200,00 to be spent. It is important to realize that this investment tends to pay off because the employer no longer needs to keep as many workers on payroll after purchasing the necessary amount of CNC machines. Another reason these machines are good investments is that they will waste less material. In fact the number of employees could fall as low as two. One worker will be needed to maintain the machines, and one to program the machines.

Using Computer Aided Manufacturing a manufacturer creates a situation where one machinist can perform the job of several machinists. These machines demonstrate the progression of technology and how this technology may be applied in the business world. Repetitive tasks will now be performed by machines and humans will be able to use their minds so as to maintain and program the machines instead of having to use their bodies for work.
