Perhaps the biggest benefit of choosing bamboo flooring in your home is the fact that it is an environmentally friendly material. With "green" on everyone's mind and deforestation a huge issue, bamboo is a wonderful alternative to wood.
Bamboo, when made into a flooring material, has all the beauty of wood. The bamboo stalks are turned into a smooth flooring that comes in short strips, planks, and tiles. When we were researching bamboo flooring, we were amazed at the variety of styles and colors that were offered. This made it very easy to coordinate with the existing color scheme and style of our home.
Bamboo flooring is also easy to install. We chose the plank style of bamboo, so it installed much like a traditional wood floor. It was easy to measure, cut, and lay, and the outcome was a beautiful smooth floor that would stand up to a wood floor any given day.
You should care for your bamboo flooring much the same way that you would a wood floor. Although bamboo is durable, it can be damaged if not properly taken care of. Always use protective pads on the ends of your chair and table legs, since these can cause scratches or dents in the floor. If you choose to use a rug on your floor, make sure it is one that is suitable for use on wood floors. Rubber-backed rugs may cause discoloration of the floor, since the rubber does not allow the material to breathe.
Keep your bamboo floor free of dust, dirt and grit as this may cause scratches to the surface. Sweep regularly with a soft broom and clean periodically with a cleaning agent meant for bamboo flooring. Many times, the manufacturer will recommend certain cleaning products for their floor. Be sure to read your warranty, since it may be void if you do not follow their recommendations.
The beauty, durability, and ease on the environment of bamboo make it a great option. If you are going green in your home, this is a great step in that direction. If you are thinking about remodeling your kitchen or other flooring in your home, consider using bamboo flooring. You won't be disappointed.
