The Many Benefits of Using Google Desktop

Google Desktop is an Amazing Free Tool

I'm usually pretty protective of my computer desktop and don't generally like a lot things cluttering up the space but downloading Google Desktop came with many benefits and I can't say enough great things about it. I first downloaded Google Desktop a few months ago because I wanted to use the calendar feature, which is a plug-in that is only available if you have downloaded Google Desktop. At first I thought it seemed silly to have to download the whole deal for one little calendar, but on a whim, I hit the agree and download button and haven't regretted it since. For the small business person, this is a life-saver, especially if you're someone like me with a ton of documents to manage and search for. The benefits of Google Desktop are endless and while you might be a suspicious and cautious downloader like me, trust me, your life will be easier if you make use of this free tool.

One of the biggest benefits offered by Google Desktop is the ability to search your computer harnessing the ultra-super-magic powers of Google Search. While you might be thinking "yeah, but my PC already has a little "find" or "search" function that works just fine" let me tell you, that thing is totally useless compared to the search capabilities provided by the engine on Google Desktop. It literally took me three seconds to recover a document I thought was lost forever whereas with my search function installed on Windows lord only knows how long it would have taken. Although the average computer user (for entertainment and that sort of thing) might not find it too stunning, for someone who carries his life and work around on a laptop, Google Desktop is an amazing tool. I truly can't believe it's free. I love you Google.

Another benefit to using Google Desktop is the ability to make use of the sidebar. I am little slow to warm up to changes on my PC but once I got used to, I was incredibly impressed. What this little sidebar through Google Desktop provides is quick access to any number of things you set for it to do. For instance, my sidebar on Google Desktop (which can, by the way, be minimized so it's not always distracting you) alerts me of new emails in my inbox (through Google's mail, gmail, of course) and has little news sections from the news carriers I've selected. A few weeks ago I also set it to display weather, which isn't useful for me really but is fun to have on there. One of the benefits of Google Desktop and its sidebar is also that you have the full ability to customize what you see. For example, if I've found that one of the gadgets such as the scratch pad is no longer useful, all I have to do is pick it up with my mouse and drag it out of sight. In other words, it's not a complete pain to change your settings daily with Google Desktop and even better, it's super easy to add new things to it.

Another benefit to Google Desktop is the Gadgets and Gadgets Interface. The regular gadgets offered by Google Desktop include basic, but highly-useful and functional things like a desktop calendar (which is killer, by the way, and not full of bells and whistles) as well as to-do lists and alerts for various tasks. What's even cooler and is one of the added benefits of Google Desktop is that there are a ton of developers out there who can come up with and add their own gadgets to the list of things to choose from. When I see something that looks interesting, all I have to do is hit the "add" button and pow, there it is. I've spent countless totally wasted hours screwing around with different tools for Google Desktop. It's a good way to spend time and look for interesting and helpful tools that are totally free and safe to download-unlike so many other downloads that are "free" but loaded to the gills with spyware.

There are so many benefits to using Google Desktop and at the risk of sounding like a freaking commercial here (which I can't help, this thing has literally saved me hours of time and effort) I don't see why anyone would choose not to download it. It is completely free and I actually trust Google not to install something foul in the process of my download, which is a major benefit to using Google Desktop. This is the perfect tool for someone like me who works online and has to manage a large volume of documents and files and doesn't want them all in plain sight on the desktop. Aside from the benefits of Google Desktop in terms of its search engine for your computer, those gadgets are awesome and there are new ones being developed on a daily basis.

I'll never use Google again. They're trying to monopolize the Internet. Now when you search for info, eHow articles come up. They need to rethink what they've done. Not everything on AC is stellar material, but much of it is far better than the info provided by eHow. The crap articles on this site don't usually make it to the top anyway. Good luck to Mr. Google. He's going to need it after people go elsewhere and stocks start to fall. It's going to happen.
