The Many Cultures

April Higney
Native American, Irish, Scottish, British, German, Brazilian, Italian, African, Cuban, Guatamalen, Mexican, Vietnamese, Chinese, Asian, Korean, Jewish, Egyptian, English, Polish, Swedish, Finnish, Arabian, Iranian, Iraqi, Russian, Austrailian, Indian, Himilayan, Jamaican, Puerto Rican, Spanish, Canadian, French, Portuguese

and I'm sure the list goes on....but within this list of many beautiful cultures, I see no black nor white, I see no red, nor blue coats, but a list of many incredible interesting and beautiful cultures.

Understood that there are those that wish to maintain their heritage, but let it not be in a reign of hatred.

Understood that our histories have been of much sadness, ill-fated in decision, but history is past, as the ancestors who chose that path, we are present, if we remain in that past, how are we to move forward, placing judgement and grudges upon a future of children.

There is much to be learned from every culture, from each other, much beauty that can be shared and enjoyed in.

And these wars rage on in religious realms as well,
yet all hearts carry their beliefs in similiar roles,
in loves of a great creator, or a faith in a higher being,
or hearts in the faith of something that holds a special meaning,
and yet in all of that love,
bloodshed,
tears,
and anguish,
over what?
Who's love in belief is stronger,
more true?

Inside the deeper core,
brother against brother,
sister against sister,
the hurting within one cultural grouping,
of each other,
without any sad prejudice,
but sad.

Beyond the surface of typical daily issues,
political, government, societies without government,
beyond religious, beyond racial profiling,
setting it all aside,
looking at all,
as people,
many cultures,
that could be shared and learned from,
if done so in true kindness,
enough to bridge many large gaps,
if not for us today,
but our children,
for the future.

From incredible cuisine, to beautiful silks, to a treasured glass item, passed down from our elders, to the arts, to the music, to the beautiful clock sitting upon the mantel, that one took the time to craft, to the carpet upon our floor that comforts from a chill in winter without any shoes. All of these combinations of culture reach around the entire earth to which we all live upon.

Maybe my words will only travel so far,
perhaps will never change a single thing,
nor ever save a soul,
but to state it,
is my heart's role.

Maybe not within my time,
but a wish,
for peace,
for our future,
for our children,
to be able to carry out a life,
unafraid.
