The Many Uses of Table Salt

Simple table salt has a great number of uses other than simply seasoning our food. The following list will give you just some of the many uses there are of salt, many of which you probably already know of and some that you didn't.

Sprinkle salt on greasy build up on kitchen stovetops and then wipe up with a damp sponge.

Keep a container of salt by the front and back door of your home to sprinkle on the steps and sidewalk to de ice them and prevent falls.

Moisten table salt with a dash of vinegar and then dip your finger into the mixture and rub your hands together. This will remove odors from your hands left behind from spices such as garlic.

Mix salt and lemon juice to remove mildew stains from around baseboards.

Salt will prevent weeds from growing in between the cracks of a sidewalk or a brick walkway if you sprinkle salt in the cracks.

Sprinkle salt on messes from foods flowing over in the oven and once the oven is cooled; the mess will wipe up clean and easy.

Clean up your stained coffee pot with a warm salt-water solution.

Clean brass, copper and pewter with paste made of salt and vinegar, thickened with flour.

Add a little salt to the water your cut flowers will stand in for a longer life.

Pour a mound of salt on an ink spot on your carpet; let the salt soak up the stain.

Clean you iron by rubbing some salt on the damp cloth on the ironing surface.

When cooking foods in a double boiler cook the food faster by adding a dash of salt.

Use a mixture of salt and lemon juice to clean piano keys and computer keyboards.

To fill plaster holes in your walls, use equal parts of salt and starch, with just enough water to make stiff putty.

Rinse a sore eye with a little salt water.

Use salt water as a mouthwash.

Use salt and hot water and add in honey for a sore throat gargle.

Dry salt sprinkled on your toothbrush to give teeth a squeaky clean feeling.

Rub any wicker furniture you may have with salt water to prevent yellowing.

    Lots of tips I did not know. I don't quite understand the knee high thing either, but it sounds like its worth a try.

    I knew a lot of these, but not all. Okay, not getting the knee high thing, but if you add vinegar to the salt it will clean copper bottomed pans. It will keep clothes from freezing? Who knew!?
