The Marketing Model of Internet Porn in the Changing Economy

Georga Hackworth
Every day technology expands, computers not only become smaller and more travel convenient but they can do more. Once used by business people as a portable office, they are now portable gaming machines and entertainment centers and those with various wireless internet carriers can log onto the Internet virtually anywhere. You can go almost anywhere, and as long as you have your computer, everything you need is right at your finger tips from ordering pizza to ordering porn. After all, Avenue Q said it best, "The Internet is for porn."

Internet porn is already starting to change a lot of things, and it's going to continue to change things over the next year and I believe that soon we are going to see mainstream entertainment taking its queue from the adult entertainment industry and following its lead.

One thing that has been proven over time is that the adult industry is one that will always survive a recession, but it's going to be quality over quantity. As gas prices skyrocket and it costs more to venture away from home, people are going to start turning more and more to their computers for entertainment. Video on Demand (VOD) allows you stream a movie to your computer to watch once or download to watch unlimited times from every genre available from Hollywood blockbuster to Ron Jeremy classics.

The days of motels catering to traveling business people by offering pay per view blue movies as a way to stave off boredom and loneliness are slowly coming to an end. Groups like Morality in Media are pressuring motel chains to do away with these money making ventures. As this happens those that would normally rent these movies in their hotel room are going to be moving on to VOD sites on their computers. How are they going to pick what to watch since they are going to have entire libraries open to them rather than the five or six movies offered by the motel?

There are now many sites on the Internet that offer reviews of adult films written by amateur reviewers. The best way to sell anything is by word of mouth. How many times have you gone out to see a movie then told your friends about it who in turn went out to see it? That is what the adult industry is now doing to expand their business and promote VOD. These amateur reviewers often times get free copies of the movies to keep for screening purposes.

It ups their already large revenue. As the economy continues to go in the direction as it is going, and fewer people have less money to do the fun things with that they are used to doing because they need gas to go to work, and they need to feed and clothe their families, it may only be a matter of time before mainstream Hollywood follows this example.
