The Marketplace Bride

Tashi

She eluded immediate capture by cleverly disguising herself as a scrawny tree knowing that her pursuer was on the intense lookout for a succulent flower to encase into his matrimonial entrapments. She was on her way to the marketplace with a basket of barriers and nuts to sell and there was nothing of the likes of which that she soon encountered that had even vaguely crossed her mind as she walked along anticipating a good commerce day at the market. Normally she would be with a group but because she had been very slow this morning in getting herself prepared to go she was left behind but even so this was not that big a thing for her to walk to the marketplace alone because she has done so a number of times before without the slightest incident occurring along the way. The word of mouth has been fluctuating about a certain chieftain who needs to take himself a wife on the timely order of something like very quickly in order to secure his position in the eyes of the mainstream folk of his people regarding his stability as a leader but of all of the women of his village they were either already spoken for or not yet of age to be committed to marriage.

She has heard this recent gossip about this chieftain a number of times and it is not that she does not believe it as being true only that the application of this being a conscious concern personally of hers seems to be very remote and mute. She has never considered herself as being very attractive if attractive at all and it is a common theme reciting itself behind her back that she as far as logical thinking goes is dang near at her wits end, which of course this intellectual assessment being so ascribed to her she does not take it to heart as being encased in absolute truth because she knows well that talk goes around looking for an attentive ear to catch hold of it and if this is what some actually believe about her then that is they're freedom to walk as they please and likewise for her to make a voice talk to defend herself of this assumption would only be feeding into them which she will not pleasure them by doing so. She has heard nothing more about this eager chieftain in a couple of days now as the topic of conversation has migrated onto more current and juicer subjects but she does not believe that this chieftain has found his bride as yet otherwise she would have certainly heard about it by now.

Even though it is still early morning it is already a hot day but not too much worry of her because she always takes her umbrella along with her just for the use of providing shade from the sun. She did not really hear anything to alert her until he was right up on her and frantic commotion compelled her to turn to her left side to see what was the disturbance. Like a hungry Lion a man was racing straight towards her and almost instantly she assumed him to be the chieftain who is in pursuit of a wife to make good his claim as the leader of his people. Startled by the suddenness of this action she nevertheless responses on instinct and tosses the basket of barriers and nuts towards him and then takes a fast running pace to the right to create some distance between herself and him. It only takes a few running moments for her to seriously appreciate the fact that this man is very determined to get his hands on her and so she picks up her pace as fast as she is able too run but it quickly becomes very obvious that she is not going to outrun him so this employ's her to use mind instead of physical tactics to make her getaway.

She had managed to maneuver herself into a position where she could use concealment as a means of eluding his capture and when she came upon the guise of becoming a scrawny tree it looked for a time that the chase was now over. Running in the hot sun had coated her with sweat and she really needed this illusion in order to catch her breath and for long moments she could not hear or detect any ruckus and so she begin to assume by this like of activity that the seeking chieftain had called this particular chase quits. Until now she was more or less watching to her front and so it was only when she turned to glance over her right shoulder that she noticed another scrawny tree close beside her that she was sure had not been there when she formed her disguise. She glanced back to her front and then quickly back over her right shoulder and now the scrawny tree was right up on her. A quick move here and another one there, atlas the woman is captured by the chieftain and taken back to his home base where an impromptu marriage service last all of five minutes before the newlyweds disappears into the chieftains hut to consummate their wedding vows. Not exactly your typical storybook romance at startup yet the union between the two ends up being very prosperous for the both of them and this is a very true recital that has happened in the days of yon that everyone can believe.
