The Maury Povich Show-Can It Be Saved?

What has happened to The Maury Povich Show? I remember when I used to come home from High School and watch his makeover episodes, and episodes on disabled kids and troubled teens who were sent to boot camp and at the end of the episode were good boys and girls again. They used to have shows about kids that were teased in school, and had counselors available to help them deal with the issues. Then they would get make overs and new clothes. Now, chances are, if you tune in at all during the week, it is about women who do not know the father of their child because they had sex with fifteen different men. I'm not kidding, almost every episode of The Maury Povich Show is about Paternity Tests.

Why do I keep calling them episodes? It's a Talk Show. Or is it? It seems as though it may possibly be set up, like the Jerry Springer Show. Your probably asking yourself, where has she been? Of course it is set up! Sorry, I guess I had some small hopes that Maury's show would continue to have some class. Now to be fair, every now and then he still does some heart warming shows where kids with disabilities get to go to Disneyland, or meet their favorite singers and movie stars, or some interesting shows about people who were teased when they were younger because of their looks but now look completely different. However, it really seems the majority of the shows are about trash topics. Did these women REALLY have sex with over 20 men in the same time period? How wacky is that? I guess even more wacky if it WASN'T staged. I mean really, how can they POSSIBLY say they are 110% sure that so and so is the father, when it is the tenth person they have tested? Then they act completely shocked and surprised when he isn't the father. It HAS to be fake. If not I want to run and hide under a rock from these people. Don't even get me started on the men. How can a man who slept with any woman without condoms or birth control be 100% sure he is not the baby's father? I don't get it.

I believe that both Jerry Springer and Maury are produced by the same production company. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the quality of the shows. Obviously someone is watching though, like a train wreck waiting to happen, or else this show would already be canceled. I would consider this show no longer in the same league as Montel or The View. Obviously Maury is no Oprah. Then again, who is other than Oprah? The Maury Povich Show is closer to The Ricki Lake Show, or what the Jenny Jones Show used to be like when I was still on. Is there a chance for Maury to redeem himself as a great talk show host? I'm not sure that any amount of Jack Hannah wacky animal episodes could ever save this show at this point. I could be wrong there. There are plenty of Springer fans.
