The Maury Show And How I Would Improve It

Ann Marie
I'm a stay at home mom and I have to admit that my guilty pleasure is the Maury Show. It's on everyday of the week during my children's nap time, and that give it some major points right there. I couldn't help but notice that all of his shows are basically the same. Someone is looking for the father of their baby, somebody has a secret to tell someone that they really should just do at home, and occasionally he'll throw in a "Can You Guess: Male or Female" show, or Amazing Stories Caught on Tape. My all time favorite shows are the episodes where a 13 or 15 year old girl is trying to have a baby that will somehow fill the void for the love she thinks she life lacks.

Every time Maury has some older women come on the show that was a teenage mother to speak with the girls or he sends them to jail or boot camp. The girls go through this wonderful transformation within the hour show or they stay the same. Later on down the road Maury does an update show where the girls are back and continuing to prostitute themselves to have a baby they cannot support, and in all reality have no desire to at any point in their lives. Maury will send them to boot camp again or have someone come yell at them on the stage. Over all I would give the Maury Show 4 out of 5 stars, it's a good program, but there is room for improvement.

If I ran the Maury show, I would run my boot camp shows on the three strike rule. Basically they would get talked to about their problem and we would try to help them three times before I would move up and take more drastic action. I've come to the realization that some people are just beyond help by regular means, and if needed, and with parental consent the child would be tricked into coming on the show for a makeover, and actually being set up for a hysterectomy.

Let's see them try to have a baby at 13 now. The show would never go that far, but hopefully this would scare the teenage girl enough to see the severity of what they are trying to do. I can see where this show would run into a problem with the FCC and many other laws or organizations, so I do have a back up plan.

Instead of just talking to them, I would find a teenage mother in New York and give them the day off by making the girls on the show take care of the child for a day. I believe that after just one day of having to be everything for a child, mother, father, caregiver, and so on that the girls will realize how hard it is and hopefully change their minds. If taking care of a baby for a day didn't do the trick, this is where summer vacation comes in.

I would set them up with jobs in their home town, plus find a child that they would have to take care of at night. I feel that would be easy to do since all parents need a day off now and then.

I believe the only way to help those children is to show them what life will actually be like when they don't have any other choice but to work and take care of a child without their mother's help.
