This Maytag French Door model comes with digital temperature controls, including a "Max Cool" setting that cools the fridge quickly after loading it with new groceries, an "Away" function for when the doors won't be opened for several days, and even an alarm telling you the doors have been left open. It includes an efficient ice maker and a filtered-water dispenser, something often lacking in the french door model refrigerator.
Inside the Maytag MFD2561 refrigerator, there are plenty of shelves, including sliding shelves and one that can be adjusted even when full. The refrigerator has plenty of door shelves big enough to hold two one-gallon jugs each, and the standard butter tray. As for crispers, the Maytag French Door model comes with two generous crisper drawers, plus a full-width, dividable deli-drawer that can hold large platters, or your every-day deli stuff.
This model (or french door models in general) do have some downsides. Quite often, you are opening both fridge doors, which wastes cool air. However, this is not any different then the old top/bottom models where the entire side opens. There is a water dispenser, but it is on the inside, not on the door. Plus, the freezer can be somewhat difficult to use, since it is all in drawers on the bottom. However, how often do you go in the freezer compared with the refrigerator? The benefits of the Maytag French Door refrigerator, however, far outweigh any of these problems. First of all, the full-width refrigerator allows you to easily store large platters, pizza boxes, or other large items. This model Maytag also provides plenty of room for all other storage. The MFD2561H controls are easy to read, and even easier to use. The refrigerator runs efficienty quitely, and keeps everything as cool as you want it.
Overall, the Maytag French Door Refrigerator, Model MFD2561H is a great investment for the family that needs extra refrigerator space and wants a great-looking, great functioning refrigerator.

Post a CommentOur MFD2561 is 5 years, and fourteen days old. My extended warranty was up 14 days ago (one of the few items I do an extended warranty on). They did not send me a renewal notice and when I phoned they said that sometimes they do NOT send them automatically and I should have noticed and contacted them. I can renew it AFTER I get my repair... Note - I have been getting reminders on my microwave for 2 years that I have not renewed. My refrig. temp started climbing up 2 days ago, currently it is 68 degrees. The freezer is just fine. Repairman came yesterday, said it is the freezer fan motor and that I should also replace the damper control. $$ Very Disappointed at Maytag-Whirlpool/warranty company. I also purchased this at Home Depot. 14 days! Anyone have any problem similar?
Please read the following three pieces (originally one) in reverse order, the bottom one from "Ken" first and "Ken part three" last. Thanks It'll make more sense.
I'd like to know how much energy is saved with such shoddy and light-weight engineering. Beware of governmental regulations that on the surface seem to be energy efficient and yet in the long run cost far, far more. We've got a Wards freezer we bought in the 1970's and has been sitting in the heat and cold of a garage for 30+ years and hauled to four states and STILL works! We may save a few kilowatts of energy with the newer more energy efficient models but we're going to fill up the blasted landfills with appliances and empty our wallets. THANKS environmental extremists! The tech said that the compressors on this model (the original) are "notorious" for breaking down. He put in an alternate model which he said seems to be engineered better and had a much better track record. I hope it does
a tech who tried a couple of new relays on the unit and determined that it was the compressor. Yet he said his equipment necessary for changing the compressor was out of commission and that I should contact another tech covered by my warranty so they could get to the repair in a more timely manner. I did and they scheduled an appointment four days later (without a refrigerator for a week by that time). The new tech showed up when he said he would and proceeded to replace the bad compressor. I'm told that Maytag had a warranty on the compressor for five years so it will be covered, but the extended warranty will have to pay for the labor (about 2 hours worth plus). I don't usually buy extended warranties. Am I glad I did this time!!! We now have a new compressor in the fridge and it seems to be working well. We have had no other significant problems with this fridge (yet), BUT having a compressor last only 4+ years on a $1400 refrigerator is ridiculous. I'd like to know how much energ
I have a Maytag MFD2560HEQ model refrigerator purchased in July 2005, 4 years and 3 months ago. Recently (November '09) it began buzzing and not cooling. It would buzz loudly for twelve seconds and then click off. A few minutes later it would do the same and the temperature in the refrigerator and freezer would slowly elevate over time. After reading on the subject I discovered that this is a classic symptom of either a bad compressor or bad starter relay. I have an extended warranty on this refrigerator, because I heard when purchasing it that most appliances (because of our government's pressure to be more energy efficient...and we haven't seen anything yet) with compressors were building the compressors too small in their mandated quest to be energy efficient, and they were junk and prone to failure. I was told the same by an experienced tech. I was glad to have the extended warranty, which will run out in July 2010. I called the warranty company and they sent out (after a weekend)
Matag MFD2560HEQ French Door Refig quit cooling again. Maytag=Junk. Want problems, buy Maytag.
GE parts are the same as everything else being manufactured in China... some o/k, some lame by poor design... Lets see where does the design come from? Make it cheap and profitable land? Sounds like US doesn't it? Where being ripped off people and its my fault as much as everyone else in this country! Wake up! Demand quality! Do your research before buying anything!
After three years my compressor just went out on my MFD2561HES French Door Maytag. Just like my co-worker's identical refrigreator did after just one and a half years. My Mom's Kenmore came with a 5 year warentee from the maufacturer, so I was hoping the same for my more expensive Maytag, but no such luck. I'm going back to buying Kenmore, my last one was 11 years old when I sold it to buy a bigger one.
I just had my Maytag French Door frige reapaired for the second time. (the repair man Glenn was a real gem & says he repairs these things on a regular basis) I too bought it from Home Depot. I have an extended warranty thank goodness that ends on 12/2010. I can extend that warranty but not until it gets closer to the cancelation due date. I WILL BE extending that policy. I've been without it for 7 days in the middle of the heat. We've been putting frozen milk jugs in & out to help keep the milk at least at 42 degrees so that it doesn't spoil. I've called everyone from Maytag to GE Zurich & then to Consumer Relations to get some answers. If anyone is interested, here's the phone number for Consumer Relations (1.800.437.3783) I was told that if the frige goes out 3 times or more, they would consider replacing it. My model number is MFF2557HEW
there is a recall on the hv ctrl board part number 12920710. this is dealing with the controls blinking and the ice flapper going crazy.
