The New Me

Kathryn Neff Perry
Several weeks ago I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. When did all this stuff on my body start sagging? My arms are like bat wings and I have a turkey neck. I guess there's nothing I can do about the neck except wear turtle neck sweaters. However, living in Florida it might seem a little strange. And be a little warm.

I got on the Internet and researched exercises for the flab.

There were so many to choose from. Why is it that the models they use are a size five with perfect biceps and a flat stomach?

After I decided which areas I most needed to target, I printed off some exercises.

The trainer recommended using five pound weights. I looked all over the house, where in the world did I put those weights?

The exercise program I chose said results would come pretty quickly. Hallelujah! Finally, an exercise program that isn't going to kill me.

I laid the instructions on the corner of my desk, feet positioned, dumbbells in hand. The first set really wasn't that difficult.

In fact, I was thinking I might not be doing it correctly because "I wasn't feeling a thing."

I smiled thinking about the "new me."

In fact, I went shopping for sleeveless tee's. Those are so cute on all the young girls. Now, with shapely biceps, they'll look good on me too.

I wanted to surprise my husband with my "new look". I didn't mention the plan to him.

As soon as he left for the golf course, I worked out.

Nineteen, twenty, whew. I sat the weights beside my desk, and leaned back in my chair.

I can't wait to see the look on my hubby's face.

I took a shower and pulled on one of my "new tees". Then I went outside to sit on the glider, sipping iced tea and waiting for him to come home.

As he pulled in the driveway, I could feel my heart pounding. I couldn't wait to see his reaction.

I held up my arms and twirled around as he walked through the door. "Well," I smiled, "what do you think?"

He raised an eyebrow, "about what?"

"My new look."

He tipped his head sideways. "I must be missing something." He said.

I tried to flex my bicep and pointed with my other hand.

"Can't you tell?"

He scratched his head. "How long have you been doing these new exercises?"

"I started yesterday."
