The Mean Guy Attitude from 'American Idol' Not Missed

Cindy Wright
The mean guy attitude from "American Idol" is not missed. That seems to be the consensus as "American Idol" season 10 hits the ground running. Steven Tyler brings the zaniness and fun back into the show that has been missing since Abdul left. Jennifer Lopez has the soft side that hates to break someone's heart. The mean guy seems to be gone and for a lot of fans it is not missed.

There are people who try out for "American Idol" and simply are horrible, but there are ways to handle letting them know they just can't cut it without being overly mean about it. Tyler told one woman, "You have no notes." That was the truth but it was said without downgrading the woman and making her feel two inches tall.

When people are told no, there will be sadness and tears. There is just no way to avoid that, but you can do it in a caring way and not have to degrade them in the process. So far the new judging table of "American Idol" has decided to take the high road and let people know if they are up to snuff or not without the name calling and degrading comments that have been seen in past seasons.

Another great thing about the show so far this season is it is about the voice and not the package that voice comes in. In past seasons there were many times when someone did not make it on to the show or almost did not make based on their appearance and not their talent. Taylor Hicks was such contestant that Simon Cowell wanted to pass on because he did have the look that Cowell considered to be an American Idol. With Abdul and Jackson out voting him, Hicks made it through and won the show. It is nice to see the hopefuls being judged on the basis of talent and not looks.

So what do you think? Do you like the new judges and the new way the show is being handled? Do you miss the meanness or are you glad to see that is seems too gone?
