The Meaning of Love

Mr. firdaus
Love is a wonderful thing that all people feel. Everyday, we are bombarded with people talking about love. But what is love? Is it to love your partner when she kisses your cheek? Or to love your husband when he has brought you money? Or to love your children when they got A's in examination? Or even to love your parents when they let you do exactly what you want? I believe that love, real true love, is much more than any of these. The four Greek interpretations of love help to distinguish the ways that love is being used. Love, real true love, is to love your partner when she is an absolute neurotic. Love, real true love, is to love your husband when he complains about the food you have laboriously made.

His complains can be a lesson to you as wife and it is come from the bottom of his heart. Love, real true love, is to love your children when they are told you that they want to spend a time with you all the time. Love, real true love, is to love your parents when they are senile. I do think, however, that within this real true love there is room for speaking out the truth. Love the wrong things with no truth cannot be called real true love and its ridiculous. Nonetheless, if one possesses this kind of love, even after having spoken the truth, keeps on loving. This real true love is not to endure or to put up with the other, resigning ourselves to our fate. Each one of us has the capacity within to love in this way, to answer well to evil. It is this real true love that distinguishes humans from any other living being.

This love instead makes someone proactive, going beyond oneself and reaching to the other, considering the other more important than one self. Unfortunately today, we do not see many examples of this real true love on newspaper or in television. However, this real true love exists, and every human being is capable of it. Love is so wonderful for those appreciate what it is. If we have never loved in this way, it is not because we are evil or maybe it is not even our fault, but perhaps it is because we have not been really truly loved ourselves. Love each other and nothing can change your love for the person your love.
