The Media Killed John Edwards

John Edwards Bows Out of the Presidential Race

Antigone
John Edwards was "my" candidate. He was talking to me. He was going to bring down the great harlot that is Washington. He was going to withdraw us from Iraq, end genocide in Darfur, give us all socialized medicine, and look out for the little guy who is currently battling big bad lenders. I mean, what about this:

"Homeownership is the foundation of the American Dream. Dangerous mortgages have put millions of families in jeopardy of losing their homes. It's time for Washington to stop taking care of banks and their lobbyists and act decisively to help regular families."

I thought you couldn't keep a good man down?

Apparently you can. Amidst the competing, clanging voices ever magnified by pundits crying over the "firsts" - the first woman vs. the first black [man], John Edwards really didn't stand a chance. He was running against celebrity candidates, Denzel Washington and (a much older) Demi Moore, if you will.

Change We Can Believe In?

Being a good orator, able to inspire and stir emotion among the masses, does not make you a viable candidate for president of the country - Glee Club maybe; it makes you, dare I say it, Jesse Jackson! Yeah I said it.

On his website he has a big "Thank you Elizabeth & John" [for finally dropping out; now I can really get over]. According to a rcent MSNBC article, he's even asked John Edwards for his endorsement. As if.

Barack Obama can certainly talk a good game and his verbal responses are quite convincing. I'm still not convinced.

Hillary Clinton wants to:

"Return to fiscal responsibility. After six and a half year of President Bush's fiscal irresponsibility, Hillary wants America to regain control of its destiny. She will move back toward a balanced budget and surpluses. Hillary believes that we should develop a set of budget rules similar to those we had in the 90s which required us to fund new expenditures with new revenues or cuts in other areas."

In other words, she wants to go back to the Clinton era of the 90s while everyone else wants to do something different, while John Edwards was going to "crack down on abusive lenders by creating a new Families Savings and Credit Commission to protect families and with strong national laws against abusive and predatory credit cards, payday loans and mortgages. Edwards will create Work Bonds to help families save and invest, providing financial safety nets for hard times. Work Bonds, a new tax credit of up to $500, would help low and moderate-income, working Americans save for the future."

She also wants to:

"Lower taxes for middle class families by: extending the middle class tax cuts including child tax credit and marriage penalty relief, offering new tax cuts for healthcare, college and retirement, and expanding the EITC and the child care tax credit."

I don't see the break for those who are single and/or childless.

Hillary did say a smart thing, "John Edwards ended his campaign today in the same way he started it - by standing with the people who are too often left behind and nearly always left out of our national debate." John Edwards was also left out of our national debate.

John Edwards simply couldn't be heard above the black man who started out not black enough and has now become too black, and the woman who cried on TV because she had been up for 16 hours rehearsing the same empty rhetoric, and the former president who just would not sit down or shut up. Even Bill Clinton commented on the media's lust for drama that didn't really matter to the voters at large.

So thank you Fox, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, Washington Post, NY Times, et al. You've turned down your mics when a good man was speaking and blasted the amp when others were speaking and yet saying nothing of consequence.

Video killed the radio star and the media killed John Edwards.

No. John Edwards Killed John Edwards. The Media Just Saw A Red Meat Story and ate it. Politicians and Attorneys are the very last people in all of our society to have propriety of personal decorum as a means of judging their character. If you have ever been to a court of law in action you know that proper decorum is one of the most effective ways to win a case. Edwards knew it better than most. He used it to win cases and gain points in his political life. Edwards is 100 percent responsible for his own demise and no one else.

Wow, I've never heard anyone defend the Edwards so much. Shame most of what you said is ill-informed and blind to reality. He's made his fortune milking the system and consequently driving up costs for the rest of us. There's no reason to believe he wouldn't continue to do the same in Washington. Little people? What little people?
