The Mentalist Gears Up for Large Audience

That's right everyone, the new Fall 2009 line up on CBS comes in just two short months. Some shows will go out and new ones will come in. Of course, the competition will be fierce. The new intense drama, the Mentalist, comes back for its second season and will have a lot of competition.

The Mentalist has already taken television by storm in its first season. At one point, it brought in 17 million viewers during its season finale. Just from this, I believe the Mentalist will do just fine when it premiers again this fall.

The Mentalist is somewhat similar to the show Psyche which stars Shawn Spencer as a psychic who uses his powers to solve serious crimes. The Mentalist's main star is Simon Baker who stars as Patrick Jane. Jane is able to use his mentalist abilities to solve crimes. He has observation skills very similar to that of Sherlock Holmes and this show gives off that vibe. He joined the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after his enemy known as Red John killed his wife and daughter for making fun of him. In the season finale, Red John killed teenage twins and it was revealed that the local sheriff was working with Red John. It was also revealed that Red John was in a relationship with a blind woman. It was feared that he was being drawn into a trap.

In season 1, the Mentalist aired on Tuesdays, but now it will air on Thursday's at 10:00 p.m. eastern time. It will air right after CSI. This is the perfect primetime slot and it will probably draw in a number of viewers. There is no doubt that CSI and the Mentalist will be in strong competition. Also airing on Thursdays will be Survivor: Somoa. Other new shows in competition with the mentalist include Numbers, Criminal Minds, Accidentally on Purpose, NCIS, and a new medical drama known as Three Rivers. I believe the Mentalist will perform very well for many reasons. The reason I think this is because it had a large audience turn out for its season finale in May. As a matter of fact, it has been rates as the number one new series on CBS. Another reason is because it is paired up with CSI and Survivor, both of which are known to pull in a large number of viewers. The first episode of the Mentalist will air on Thursday September 24 at 10:00 p.m. Do not miss it. It will surely prove to be another great season.
