In Ball of Fire Season 3 Episode 8 Patrick Jane goes from being one of the hunters to being hunted and captured. He is kidnapped by the psychotic daughter of a criminal Patrick help put away. The man had been committing insurance fraud by cashing in fake life insurance policies. When a coworker found out, he killed him. While he was being investigated, Patrick tricked the daughter into telling on her father.
Patrick is being kept in a basement, hand cuffed to some pipes. At the mercy of Rachel, the only thing Patrick can do is try to mentally overcome Rachel into doing something that may actually be helpful to him since physically he is helpless and exhausted. Rachel tortures him with a cattle prod until she gets a phone message and tells Patrick she has to leave because someone is breaking into her house. As the dead body of her partner lies at the bottom of the steps, Patrick asks Rachel to move the body because of the horrid smell. Rachel pushes the body closer which is exactly what Patrick had intended. Pulling a knife out of the dead guys pocket after Rachel has left, he attempts to jimmy the lock on the hand cuffs.
Shortly thereafter Patrick sees Lisbon being led down the steps by Rachel. Lisbon is handcuffed up beside Patrick and Rachel leaves telling them they will burn. Rachel is pouring gas all over the outside of the house when she hears Lisbon screaming. As she goes down the steps she sees both Lisbon and Patrick covered in blood and Patrick tells her that he told her he wouldn't let Lisbon burn alive. As Rachel gets closer Lisbon grabs her around the neck with her hands cuffs in an effort to get away. Rachel manages to get free and is as mad as ever. As she threatens to shoot them, she is shot from behind.
