The Miami Dolphins Defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 14-10

The Miami Dolphins traveled to Jacksonville Sunday to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. They came away with a hard-fought 14-10 victory. The win kept Miami in the conversation for the sixth and final spot in the AFC playoff picture.

Everything went right for the Dolphins in the first quarter. Miami controlled the clock, not allowing Jacksonville much time to possess the ball. The Dolphins employed a punishing ground attack that the Jaguars had trouble stopping. Ricky Williams plunged in from the one to give the Dolphins their first lead of the game, a lead they would never relinquish.

In the second quarter, the Dolphins scored first, with Quarterback Chad Henne rolling out and finding the end zone from the one yard line. Jacksonville fought back with a Maurice Jones-Drew one yard plunge. The Jaguars went three and out on almost all of their possessions in the first half. Chad Henne went 14-16 for the Dolphins in the first half.

The second half was much the same as the first half. In the third quarter, Jacksonville received the ball. They continued to go three and out. The one bright spot for the Jaguars was turnovers. The Jaguars forced 5 fumbles by the Dolphins, recovering 2 of them. They also had 1 interception. This helped Jacksonville to a field goal in the 3rd quarter.

Their was no scoring in the fourth quarter. Jacksonville fought hard the entire game, but was unable to win in the end. Miami stopped Jaguars Quarterback David Garrard on fourth and 2 to win the game. In most games this year, the Jaguars offense has been the difference maker for them. In this game, the Jaguars defense kept them in the game. If the Jaguars offense had been up to par, they may have won this game.

By contrast, Miami started out with three straight losses. The Dolphins are now 7-6, and firmly in the playoff hunt. The Dolphins have won their last two games in the fourth quarter. In each of those games, they have had to make gutsy defensive stands late. Miami has capitalized on others teams weakness to win close games.

Both Miami and Jacksonville have a chance to make the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. Miami plays it's next game @ Tennessee. Jacksonville plays it's next game at home against Indianapolis.
