I dreamed a dream one moonlit azure night,
A haunting reverie awakened me.
An apparition bathed in silv'ry light
And clothed in flowing garments I did see.
Beside my bed this ghostly specter stood
In perfect stillness; not a move it made.
I summoned all the courage that I could
To look at it; and silently I prayed.
The seraph gazed at me, its eyes aglow
I thought my wretched life was at an end.
But then he smiled at me, and whispered low,
"Be not afraid," he said, "I am your friend."
I am alone again; my thoughts run deep;
There's much for me to ponder ere I sleep...
