The Millenium of the Growing Breast

Karen Reams
Has anybody else noticed that women's breasts appear to be getting larger? A decade ago the average bust size was 34B and today it is a magnificent 36C.....

Bravissimo , a bra company specializing in bra's for larger ladies, has recently introduced three different K-cup sizes. Not on a whim but due to customer demand.

Once upon a time it seemed that only stout old ladies had the bigger boobies which they held up on crossed arms but look around today and you will see many of our younger ladies sporting the bigger breasts. And not because of silicone implants, these breasts are home grown and 100% natural!

There a few reasons being batted around as to why this is happening and having seen this 'development' in my own family have become a bit curious.

Of course the obvious is our diet and lifestyle. Years ago the basic diet was meat and veggies. Chocolate, sweets, puddings and sodas were a treat to be enjoyed occasionally. Unlike today when these goodies have become a daily indulgence. And of course years ago we were more active playing outside games, running, riding our bicycles. Unlike today when many youngsters are sat in front of the television or sat in front of the computer playing computer games.

Other experts have offered the reason as to being hormone levels. The tissue of the breast is really sensitive to these and so it is no wonder that the contraceptive pill has been linked with the 'bigger boob phenomenon'. But we do have to take into consideration that today's modern version of the pill contains far less estrogen than their older counterparts so it would be unfair to put the blame solely on the pill.

It has also been suggested that the residual estrogen that gets into the water supply from the many women who take the pill could be a factor.

Others have speculated (and there is no research to back this up) that levels of artificial hormones in the food chain could be affecting todays breast sizes.

My own personal thought is that we women are growing larger breasts simply as a result of an all round weight gain. It is not only busts that increased in size but waists also. In the 1950's the average female waist was 27.5 inches and today the average waist size is 34 inches. So is it any wonder that breasts have grown larger too? The fact is today like it or not our breasts have a higher proportion of fat in them due to our eating habits and lifestyles.
