The Minnesota Senate Race-It's Not Over Yet

Will Either Candidate Grow Up and Concede?

Elections were held on November 4, 2008. It was a rather nasty campaign between Norm Coleman, the incumbent, and Al Franken, who you may remember from Saturday Night Live. When Election Day came I was hoping that all advertisements and news stories would cease. Sadly, I was wrong.

There was a difference of fewer than eight hundred votes which prompted Al Franken to call for a recount. While the election judges were performing this recount, members from each party were present. If there was a question about how the circle was filled in or whether or whether there were two circles filled in one of the parties would challenge the vote. Both parties had over one thousand challenges.

When gathering the ballots, it was discovered that box of ballots had been overlooked. After the recount, a few individuals performed another recount. When they were finished, Franken was found to be 49 votes ahead of Coleman. Coleman chose to challenge the count so the matter is now in court. No one knows when the matter will be legally settled.

Only our current senator, Amy Klobuchar, from Minnesota was sworn into office on January 5, 2009 because no definite decision has been made between Franken and Coleman.

After the vote in November, Norm Coleman stated that Al Franken should concede and not call for a recount. Funny, now that it looks like he will lose his senate seat, he is quick to challenge the count.

Now it seems to me that both parties have had their moments when they have looked like a crybaby. Instead of putting the issues in the people's mind, they proceeded to attack their opponent. When the race was over, they didn't show grace, noooooo!, they stubbornly conceded so that they wouldn't look like a loser. Do these people even think of the people who are their constituents?
