Wow I still can't believe how embarrassing my first day of High school was. My cousin & I attend the same school now. At first I thought this may go pretty well but, than I remember, my cousin has a few small flaws.
First off she is no where near cool or even normal. I mean, well she carries around a metal Dora the Explorer lunchbox, yeah in High school. How elementary is that? But just wait, that's not all, not only does she carry a metal Dora the Explorer lunchbox but she keeps her pet worms inside. Its creepy on so many levels.
On top of that no matter what season it is she is always sick, sneezing and coughing everywhere. Yuck just what I need her snot all over me on my way to my first day of school. Now your probably wondering why it is that I haven't told you her name? Well let's just say she isn't very proud of it. You could hear her say, "I feel stone cold ugly when I look in the mirror." Her name was Medusa, yeah she had to have the mother who's favorite movie was "Clash of the Titans" or some other weird old black and white flick.
Now after rethinking the qualities of my cousin I decided this day might no go as planned. I mean I love her dearly don't get me wrong, but I don't really want to be the laughing stock my freshman year at a new school, would you?
So now I have made it to my school, Medusa and I. And we met in the cafeteria you know for the sake of the walk up to the door. Surprisingly we had the same exact schedules. At this point in my head I am screaming " How on God's green earth could this be happening to me!" We of course spoke to one another and I noticed her metal Dora lunchbox. I tried not to shed a tear, but at that point I was in fear of loosing all my high school friends before I meet them!
Standing in shock the bell rings and the both of us head to our home room. Upon entering the door, I see the looks from across the room. Not at me but at my absent minded cousin who not only forgets to put her book bag in her locker, but is carrying that very Dora the Explorer lunchbox I dreaded all week. The laughs begin and all I could was slink down in my seat. Wow, how humiliating. Where does she sit? Right next to me of course, talking an laughing as if I could think about anything else but the Dora the Explorer lunchbox she so happened to leave on her desk for the whole school to see. Students were laughing and pointing outside the door for pities sake.
The classes dragged on for the duration of the morning, and I couldn't stop thinking about how I got stuck in such a miserable situation this year. Then in lunch it happened, he happened. Jeffery Warren the only guy I ever truly loved in my entire life, walked in the cafeteria. Middle schools top basketball player and love of my life. And I knew he was going to see me with her. Once again I slumped over in my seat hoping he would pass by me undetected. Fat chance of that, he looked down and pointed right at me, "Hey everyone its Mooser the looser Malene". At that moment my heart stopped. Not in High school I thought. This was going to be my year. All I could hear was his boys in the background yelling, "Yeah, mooser the looser".
At that moment my cousin stood up, and I thought "Why did she want to make my life worse, what ungodly thing would she do to make my day any worse." But she surprised me. She walked over to Jeffery with her unsightly little lunch box and did the one thing I wish I had the guts to do! She dumped the entire pile of earth worms on the top of his head! The look on his face was priceless. His friends and half of the freshman class laughed at him, calling him "Wormy Warren". And each time I hear that name, I laugh a little inside. As for Medusa and I, well lets just say that we are on a much better level of friends now, talk daily, and despite the party last month things are going good. But that's another story.
