The Modern Chameleon

Brendan W Vittum
The Modern Chameleon:

Who are you?
Really - Who are You?
I am the childless father,
and a Mother losing a sun.
I am the brother of a thousand brothers
who has ten thousand sisters.
I am the sister of a thousand sisters
who has ten thousand brothers.

I am the man with no home
who lays claim to a thousand homes.
I am he who has never read a book,
and he who has read a million books.

Who are
you? Really - Who are
You? I am the one with no taste
who tastes every syllable
which departs your lips,
and I am the one who smells
each quivering word
you utter to the darkness.

I am the blind man who sees
a nighttime world clearer, in more
vivid detail, than you will ever
see your days.

Who are you?
Really - Who

are You? I am the mute
who speaks the thoughts
you forgot once forgetting, and I
am the one who can regurgitate
genius on topics you know better
than I ever can.

Who
are you?
Really - Who
are You? I
am all of these things -
though you doubt - and I am none
of these things.

I am Your whore - the one willing
to be whoever you want, need,
me to be. And Who are you?
Do you even know anymore?
I? I am the man to be avoided;
I am the chameleon
that is you.
