The Moment I Saw Her I Fell in Love

Matthew Shively
The moment I saw her I fell in love

Her skin so soft and the color of a dove

Her fingers gripped so tightly

Her toes curled so slightly

Once she was calm she made little sounds

She was so cute and one that astounds

She had not much hair upon her head

Mom is now sound asleep in her bed

I could not help but stare in amazement

Something so small made such a statement

I held her hand and smiled wide

I was now a daddy with so much pride

The moment I saw her I fell in love

Her smell and tenderness that was given from above

She would be my world, one I would give praise

Thank you lord for all your grace

The nurse comes in and takes her away

But I tell her no I want her to stay

I need not sleep I tell her so

She disagrees and there they go

I was so happy that I cried

I held her hand, mommy my bride

Told her how proud I was of her might

I then laid down and held her tight

Fast asleep we went; must not have been an hour

When the nurse came in with our beautiful flower

I was so tired but my eyes gleamed in delight

She was awake for the first time tonight

I looked at mommy and told her out loud

How amazing this was and how I felt so proud

She is now eight and her beauty is beyond the sun

We have birthed two more and now begins the fun

The moment I saw all of them I fell in love

This is dedicated to my strong and devoted wife and my three beautiful daughters whom mean the world to me.

I can relate, though I'm the mother. :)

Fathers who do not relate to this may find they have trouble relating to the very idea, let alone the reality, of being someone's dad. Well done!
