My children all make me proud, and in my journey of motherhood, I've known several proud moments. The first times my children have said "Mama," the first days of school, first steps, first days after potty-training "accident free," etc.
But what makes me most proud, is when I know that my efforts at parenting my children are paying off.
When I see my children share their toys, offer to do things for their younger siblings, when they say "please" and "thank-you," these are the things that make me proud to be a Mom, the things that tell me that motherhood is completely worth it.
I think my most recent proud moment as a Mom had to have been when my three year old son and four year old daughter were sitting on the floor playing with blocks. I picked up a block with the letter "Y" on it, and asked my four year old daughter what the letter was. She shrugged and said "I don't know." Immediately, my three year old son piped up with "Duh, That's a Y!"
Now, I wasn't proud of the fact that he told his sister "Duh." I was proud of the fact that he knew what letter I was showing them. The fact that my teaching efforts are paying off, tells me that my children are learning and that my parenting skills aren't "half bad."
The day before this incident, my four year old daughter had successfully written her name correctly, with no backwards letters. I couldn't have been prouder.
Knowing that my children are learning from me, that I teach them by actively teaching, and by my example, makes me proud.
Motherhood isn't easy, and sometimes it can seem like a thankless job. Those proud moments as a Mom can really make the difference in how I view my job as a mother, and can make me redouble my efforts to be the best Mom that I can be.
When my children hug and kiss one another's tears away- when they see me tired, sick or sad, and want to "make Mommy better," these are the moments that any Mother lives for. This is what makes parenting worth it, and these are my proud moments as a Mom.
Knowing that my children are learning the importance of empathy, kindness and compassion- lets me know I am a successful parent, and that I am parenting my children the "right" way. They also make me proud to be a Mom.
