The Mom-to-Mom Sale - What a Steal!

Mary Frederick
I had heard of them before, but was never really quite sure of what the Mom to Mom sale was all about. Wow, these things are amazing! If you don't mind buying gently used baby clothes for your little one, then a Mom to Mom sale is for you. I went to my first one when I was pregnant and I will admit that I was a bit overwhelmed. You can't possibly imagine that your little baby will need so much stuff, and where in the world do you begin? I would personally recommend the Mom to Mom sale after you've had the baby and have a better handle on what you need. The Mom to Mom sales have become big and are spreading across the country, I have friends all over that love them like I do. It's basically a bunch of moms coming together to sell or buy gently used baby clothes and equipment. For the moms with items to sell, they buy a booth and price their goods as they would for a garage sale. Moms can also price their bigger items (such as high chairs) that usually fill a separate room for those moms (or grandmas) that need something for their baby. For moms that want to buy something, you are in luck. You can't possibly imagine how many clothes there are out there, and who can argue with paying $1 and up for a cute little baby shirt that they will likely wear a handful of times.

Some things to keep in mind when you hit the local Mom to Mom sale:

*Go early if you are looking for the bigger items (such as high chairs, strollers, etc)--these items sell out quickly. Some Mom to Mom sales have an early bird portion where you pay $1 extra for admission and you get first dibs on everything being offered. Go early and act quickly, you would be amazed at how crazy it can get with moms on a sales mission!

*Go with items in mind, if you don't you will likely end up wandering around with no idea where to go or what to buy. If I know that I want another winter coat for my daughter, then I zero in on that particular item. I knew that I wanted some winter clothes for her, so I went for those items specifically. You can quickly get overwhelmed if you have no clue of what you want or need for your little one.

*Try to negotiate, as some moms will be reasonable. This is particularly helpful if it's an item that you love or if you are buying more than one item from one , mom's table. Most moms will be eager to sell their items, but just be realistic in what you are offering.

*If you are able to at all, bring somebody besides your baby with you. Leave the baby at home with your husband if you are able and bring your mom, sister, friend, or anyone else you can rustle up. This will make looking for key items much easier, and getting in and around the place will be a much easier task without a stroller.

*Go with cash in hand and a smile--no credit cards used here! It's like anything else, go with a good attitude and money to pay for your must have items.

Don't get me wrong, new items are a must to keep a baby looking fashionable! However if you want to supplement or find some specific items that you refuse to pay full price for, then the Mom to Mom sale is for you. In our area they are offered every weekend for a couple of months based on the seasons, so look them up in your town to find a great deal. Good luck on the bargain hunting, moms!
