When you enter the Mosque Kitchen, there will be a menu on the wall to your left. This menu, however, does not always mean that the Mosque Kitchen currently has the food available. In general, though, you can count on there being chicken or beef or lamb curry with rice. There are also vegetarian curries that you can order, though the vegetables may vary. If you're looking to get some falafel or kebabs, you may want to ask in advance when they will serve those, as they can run out quickly on those dishes. Naan bread is also a popular order, and you may have to wait a bit to get your serving of naan.
The rice served at the Mosque Kitchen is different everyday. Some days, you will be served a rice with pieces of corn or green peas. On other days, the rice will have spices that give the rice a little more of a kick.
Do not be put off by the paper plates and plastic spoons. Though the Mosque Kitchen may not look like the best place to have a meal, this is a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. The absence of indoor seating, combined with occasionally wet seats and hungry-looking pigeons can drive some newcomers away. However, it is highly recommended that you first try out the Mosque Kitchen before passing judgment.
Any dish you order will most definitely make you comfortably full. The typical expense is around 4 pounds for a meal. The servings of rice and curry are generous and will make you happy, as well as keep you warm while you eat outside under the awning. If you cannot stand eating outside, there are takeaway options available for you.
For students, the Mosque Kitchen is an essential source of food, as its prices are hard to beat. Turn left on East Crosscauseway, and make a right on Nicolson St. Make a left on West Nicolson St., and look for a sign on your right that will indicate that you have reached the Mosque Kitchen.
The Mosque Kitchen is open at noon every day of the week and closes at 7pm every day of the week. On Fridays, the Mosque Kitchen is closed from 1pm to 1:45pm.
