The Most Annoying Television Commercials

Ever feel like television advertising was more of a "ploy to annoy," than a means to a sell? And those ads in particular are usually the ones that air most frequently. You know the ones - just seeing them pisses you off, or makes an already bad day even worse. I have a few of my own bothersome, preplexing ads, and even found a site where people post the ones they are most perturbed by; Here are a few I felt were worthy of sharing:

I will begin with one from my own. This one is number one on my hit-list. I absolutely loathe this commercial! And wouldn't you know I see it every single time I have the set on, almost like it is deliberately seeking me out, to taunt and torture me! It's irritating, it's dumb, and I hope the participants were well-paid, because they should ba ashamed of themselves...it is that ubiquitous Hoveround Power Chair Commercial with those senior citizens, wheeling around on the streets, in their home, or on a basketball court trying to sing that old Judy Garland song, "You made me love you." No, you really made me HATE you! Perhaps it's mean for me to hate those people, but this feeling of apathy grows every time I see this commercial! As glad as I am that they have found a fun way to stay mobile, I really am tried of hearing them caterwhalling about it with that horrible cacophony they have mistaken for singing. Makes me want to turn their little motor-chair over on top of them just so they'll finally shut-up.

Okay, moving on, this next one is another favorite hate, but the good news is, I think it has finally run its course because I haven't seen it in at least a couple of weeks. And it is the Dairy Queen Commercial, showcasing the burger that is supposed to "make a man out of you," where the girl takes a bite, snags the remote control from her guy to switch the channel to a game, slumps back on the couch in an Al Bundy-like pose and says, "Dude, pull my finger." I have never been fond of that expression for starters, maybe because my husband loves it, I don't know. If those are the characteristics of true manhood, then, women are screwed. If I never see that one again, it will be too soon.

Of course we are nearing election time, and those wonderful informative political campaign ads are everywhere. Aren't they fun? I am sick of those mud-slinging fests where all the politians say "I'm _____, and I approve this message." Well, I don't. Click.

Here are a few chosen from a Forum on Ebay called the Soapbox, a discussion board where folks posted their most annoying commercials. It was no surprise to discover that many folks are bothered by the same ones I am also sick to death of, which tells you how common television commercial nuisance is these days.

I had forgotten about this one, but I have to agree. One guy said he was sick of all the BK commercials. You know, the ones where you see the Burger King Mascot with that huge head going everywhere from football games, to your own apartment, etc. Yes, that is a bad one. If I saw that fake looking big-headed creature walking around, it would scare the hell out of me! This person sums it up by saying these kind words, in a post they so-aptly titled "Those D*mn Burger King Commercials," As I've said before... If I found that face staring in my window I'd gladly blow it off with a 12 Guage... all the while laughing madly and shouting "The King is dead, long live the King!" (Ebay Saopbox forum) He has a point.

Here's another that also happens to be one of mine-any Geico Ad. I have seen way too much of the slimy little reptile spokesperson with the accent and would love to step on him! I'm not sure which is worse, the ads with the little gecco of the ones with Charro. Ugh! Another person on the forum is fed up with the ones that involve the Cavemen and has this to say: "I HATE those Geico commercials with the cavemen. "GEICO...so easy a cavemen could do it!" Since when do cavemen eat roast duck with mango salsa???? And if they can afford that elegant apartment they can afford plastic surgery." (Ebay Saopbox forum)

Some of the other top-billers were the commercials for Headon (a headache treatment), the Charmin toilet peper commercial with the little animated bears, (I thought this one was cute, but it always made me think of the dreadful, trite expression-do bears sh** in the woods?) Old Navy Commercials, Quizno Subs Commercials, and I think at least one person was sick of Jessica Simpson talking about Pro-Activ solution.

On the reverse side, there are those commercials we do like to see once in a while. I know I must have one, but I can't think of any right now. On the Soabox forum, one person is in favor of the new Miler Lite Commerical with Burt Reynolds. I have only seen that one once or twice, and I can't recall the other men that are in it with him. That one is not so bad. At least it's a little clever.

So, just remember the next time you see and ad you hate, you are not alone. Likely, there is someone who shares your hatred for the same commerical. I think there is a small comfort in that, if not a smile.
