The Most Common 2009 Resolutions

Ginger Young
Here is a compilation of common resolutions and possible ways to achieving them. Many of us shoot high and by January 3rd were done working on them. We need to not set ourselves up for failure but, simple changes that are attainable.

Spend More Time with Family/Friends - most will agree that time spent would be so much more meaningful, if it was with our loved ones. Work, social obligations, and just being too busy with ordinary tasks tend to keep us from making more time. Prioritize, and put aside a set amount time for these special people. Schedule it, if you must.

Have Fun - Again, everyday life sometime gets in the way. Give yourself a break from the ordinary! Do something you've always wanted to do. This could be a sky dive, a "skinny" dip, or anything in between.

Get Healthy/Lose Weight - This is the old standby. We all seem to be working on this one at one time or another. Why not make it more obtainable? Take it in small chunks. If you want to lose weight, you may want to shoot for 10% and then work from there.

Have More Time - Yep, I'm going there again. Some of us just have too many obligations. Try to shave one thing off your schedule or get someone to help with the load. Really, it is ok to say no, once in awhile!

Save / Earn Money - This is a big one this year. I think most of us will be buckling down. Cutting back on what we pay for extraneous items like coffee, cell phone plans or cable TV. Clipping Coupons may come back into fashion. Many may be selling items for extra funds, also.

Take a Vacation - After stressing about money, health, and not enough time you'll need a vacation! It doesn't mean you have to break the bank. Just get away and possibly enjoy it with the people you care about. A weekend camping trip, or a few days in a local city are vacations!

Help Others in Need - Another biggie for this year, as those with little to spare are feeling more of a crunch. If we all were to pick up one extra item every time we went grocery shopping, we could make a huge impact.

Take Care of the Environment - Our kids are really on top of the green movement and for good reason. We live here! There are so many things we can do. Such as carpooling, recycling, and using alternative power sources.

Learn Something New - Sometimes, we just need some excitement. Learning something new can really help with the doldrums. If you can, learn a new job skill and you may be able to use that to further promote yourself.

Quit Bad Habit(s) - Another one of those standard issue resolutions. If it is something that you want and it's your decision, go for it! Habits are hard and strong for most of us. This will take a real strong drive to conquer.

Reach a Goal - This is a wonderful thing to do! Set a personal or professional goal. Keep it somewhere you see and possibly have someone you can be accountable to.

Once you have met your milestone, you will be full of pride & confidence.

Remember, to be good to yourself. Good Luck in this upcoming year!
