The Most Important Invention to Mankind: The Simplicity of Round

Ashby Koss
There are billions of creations every year. Someone will notice a need in the world and then creates something to fill that need. Of course then they find a company to sell their idea to for a lot of money. But I am talking about the creation of the world's greatest invention. The singular most important creation that has since day one has redefined how humans live and work. Many people will herald the creation of the light bulb, I will not.

Some people will tell of the creation of the steam powered machine to be man's greatest invention, not I. I do not seek to acknowledge the inventions that only revolutionize the human world. Although I do recognize these inventions as great leaps in human technology, I will only truly marvel at the single most impressive invention, at least in my book. The invention of which I speak is a very simple invention. So simple that it's importance in the world has been over looked many times. The single most important invention in the world is the wheel.

Not just the actual wheel, the shape. To utilize a round object and use its shape as a tool. As a moving helper, as a pulley, as anything that needs a round object the possibilities are limitless. But to take that shape and think of making it useful in whatever way will help your needs. Now that is the most important invention of the world. Whether it is a tree trunk for rolling big slabs of rock, or a gear inside of a watch. The revolution of the wheel or rather the shape has in its own way been re-created over and over but the base invention is what made it all possible.

Everything that uses something with a round shape stems from that base idea of using the round object to further whatever you happen to be doing. Without the wheel it is hard to say what would never have been invented, built, or used. Whatever brain first hit the idea of the wheel was in every sense experiencing an epiphany. Many people say the the creation and re-creation of fire is what helped the human civilization with technology. I say without the wheel technology would have never gotten where it is today.

Without fire the human race would have been just as bad off as with without the wheel but technologically speaking, fire brought chemical changes into possibility, while the wheel brought millions of years of use to the human race.

Because of the wheel and because of inventions that use the wheel. This is why I feel that the wheel has been the most singularly important invention in the world. Without the use of the wheel how many things in our lives would be different, or non-existent? Perhaps humans as a civilizations would have never technologically advanced. The wheel has truly in all it's simplicity been the greatest creation in the world. from the gears that power machinery to the round shaped glass pieces that make magnification possible. The wheel has revolutionized the world and continues to do so every year.

With respect, the above article is so bloated and repetitious that, as short as it is, it was difficult to reach the end. All of the information could have been communicated in 2 to 3 sentences for example: "Without a doubt, the wheel, or more broadly, the concept of using round objects to accomplish necessary tasks, is the most important invention of the human race. Others may give this top honor to other breakthrough discoveries or inventions including fire, the light bulb or the lever, but these discoveries pale in comparison to the wheel. In fact, it is largely through use of the concept of round that these other important inventions can be most effectively utilized.

I apologize, because even those 3 sentences are verbose, but I just knocked them off in 30 seconds and would, obviously go back to clean up were I submitting them for publication. Must you repeat your premise 9 times in 1 page to get your point across? If so, you should re-examine your position. Seriously, rea
