The Most Important Words in the Bible

Pat Lunsford
The most important words in the Bible are the actual words of Jesus Christ. "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."

"Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." (John 14:23)

Notice he said, "keep my words." He talked a lot about those who listened to his words yet didn't really HEAR them. If they had really heard (understood) His words, they would have obeyed.

"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46)

The Father of Jesus Christ appeared in a cloud to Peter, James and John and commanded them to listen to his words.

"While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him." (Matt.17)

The Bible is about spiritual things. Our spirit must grow to understand spiritual matters. In the new testament, the apostle Paul said the that all-important thing to know is Christ and him crucified. Knowing and believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he was crucified for our sins and raised from the dead means salvation for our soul.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Rom. 10:9)

The Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit (God-breathed) and every word in it is important and therefore should be studied as a whole. Jesus instructed us to listen to the prophets of old. Everything in the Old Testament is a shadow of what is to come.

There are things we may never understand in this life. As born again believers, we should try not to worry about the things we don't understand but simply trust that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truths. If we don't understand, perhaps it's not particularly important for us to understand right now.

Therefore, the guide to understanding the important words in the Bible is to become familiar with the words of Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God.

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." (1Tim. 3:15)

"...hear ye him!"

Amen Pat. This is very, very good. I think your onto something here. We can read & skim the Bible, but the Bible's most basic tennets are knowable (John 3:16) that even a child could understand. Nice article indeed. : - )
