The Most Meaningful Christmas Memory

Amy Stepp
If you ever get a chance to ask someone their most important memory about Christmas time, you will find most people telling you the best Christmas gift they have ever received. Christmas is so much more then just presents under a tree. First off Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ. I have to put that out there because most people do not even understand the true meaning of Christmas. After we celebrate the wonderful event of the Lord's birth we do stumble upon some meaningful Christmas memories. Memories about family members and sharing precious time with your loved ones. I would love to tell you about my all time favorite Christmas memory.

I was just about to turn 11 during the Christmas of 1990. My brother was 8 years older then me and off at college for his first year. So far my brother had been away from home for almost 6 months and I was so ready to spend some time with him! I bragged all week at school that my brother was coming home for the holidays and that he was one of those "big wigs" that was away at college. Even though my brother would of told you differently, I was always so proud of him and admired him so much!

My brother finally made it home on a late evening plane. My dad, mom and I headed to the local airport to pick him up. All I can remember was seeing my older brother step off the plan and into the terminal and being so sophisticated and mature looking. I knew then college life had change my brother, but then again I should of not been surprised, he did attend the United States Naval Academy! See, I am still a bragger on my brother!

I said to myself on the car ride home, David is to old now to have fun with his kid sister. These next few weeks while he was at home was going to be miserable for me because my brother was not the same guy who left a few months back. However, to my surprise, my brother was just like I remembered him being. Pestering me, playing video games with me, sitting on the couch watching television (of course football!) and I just remember the warmth of that holiday like no other.

It really sticks with me even being 20 years ago, mainly because my brother has passed away and now I only have those great memories to cling to. I love you David and miss you so very much!
