Finding Your Inside Guide to Las Vegas

Las Vegas has everything! Food, shops, gambling, and shows are all at your doorway. Yet all of these choices can leave a new visitor feeling lost and confuse as to what exactly to do in Las Vegas. Fear not, being the tourist friendly town that it is, Las Vegas provides several publication options to help tourists figure out exactly what they want to do while in town. The three front runners in this category includes the magazine "What's On", "Vegas", and the ever popular local paper "The Review Journal."

"What's On" is by far my favorite magazine and a must have for any tourist new or old. For starters, "What's On" is a free publication produced by the city of Las Vegas and it can be found in stacks near the entrance of most hotels and casinos. Look for it! "What's On" provides an abundance of information on many restaurants and most buffets. They provide you with the location, phone number, price range, and a short description of all the eateries. This information is invaluable to any new tourist and lover of food. Secondly, "What's On" provides information on all of the shows that take place at all of the casinos. One can find ticket prices, location, dates, as well as a brief description of the shows. Finally, this magazine provides information on shopping, day trips, and almost anything else you might find interesting in last Vegas. But wait that's not all, there is also a beautiful cartoon map of all the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, indispensible to any Vegas novice! Another bonus is the magazine includes a small TV guide indicating what's on TV for that week. There are also random articles that might highlight a show or performer to pique people's interest, but that is just icing on top of the cake. This magazine also has beautiful full page ads galore, but that is a small price to pay for such an informational gem. Overall this is the best magazine visitors can obtain to get the inside scoop on Las Vegas, so grab one!

"Vegas" is a smaller version "What's On". "Vegas" is a smaller guide that contains less information on restaurants and shows in exchange for its portability. This pocket size guide also provides a usable map. A special feature of this booklet are the coupons that appear from time to time; these coupon range from fantastic money savers or completely useless. Nonetheless, they can prove to be useful. While "Vegas" is not a must have magazine like "What's On", it is a nice free supplementary publication that will provide tourists with the information they need while strolling through the Las Vegas Strip and weaving in and out of the casinos.

Finally, the "Review Journal" is the most widely distributed and popular local news paper in Las Vegas; in fact it is the only major newspaper in Las Vegas aside from the national publications like USA Today. The Review Journal does not contain extensive restaurant, show, and tourist information as do the other two magazines previously described. However, the newspaper has a firm grasp on the local pulse, and will provide highlights of noteworthy events such as conventions, concerts, and festivals. Occasionally, the "Review Journal" will print features or reviews on new shows or restaurants that are helpful to the visitng tourist. Of course, the newspaper would not provide any map of Las Vegas, but it does include a daily TV guide. Finally, if you wish to catch a movie while in Las Vegas, the newspaper will provide you with full movie listings. The Review Journal of Las Vegas costs 50 cents to purchase on weekdays and slightly more on the weekends and is highly recommended for tourists who have seen most of what Las Vegas have to offer and is curious about what might be new and exciting in town.

The three publications described above represent the best of the best and will provide any tourist new and old with all the necessary information needed to enjoy a fun filled and exciting trip to Las Vegas. Until next time, tour well and prosper!
