The Movieland Wax Museum Auction
Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Leonardo Di Caprio Sold to Highest Bidders
The Movieland Wax Museum, located in Beuna Park, California (Knotts Berry Farm country) sadly was sold off, movie star bodies and spare heads, each with different expressions and make-up, to the highest bidders in an auction that took place on the internet (Ebay) as well as at the actual business location. Chandeliers to soda machines, dollar-bill changers and antique movie studio lights were also being auctioned off.
Oprah Winfrey could of bought the Tom Cruise replica sit on her couch at home as sort of a "conservation piece" if she and her guests run out of great books to discuss.
The legendary Star Trek cast starring the beautiful Nichelle Nichol as Lt. Uhura, Deforrest Kelly as Lt. Cmdr. 'Bones' McCoy (the starship's doctor), James Doohan as Li. Cmdr. Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott, George Takei as Lt. Hirkaru Sulu, Walter Koenig as Ensign Pavel Chekov and the interstellar executive officer Leonard Nimoy as Commander Spock advising William Shatner as Captain Kirk were on the set at Movieland, now adrift in the infinite galatic wilderness. This was the best-known ensembel cast in televisions long history, immediately recoginized around the world.
Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis have never appeared in a movie together but they shared the building in Beuna Park with Marilyn Monroe dressed in the slinky Gentlemen Prefer Blondes couture as John Travolta in Get Shorty looked on as Celine Dion appeared to be serenading them.
Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra costarred with Richard burton playing Mark Antony. The cowboy contingent was represented by Roy Rogers and John Wayne (Orange County named it's airport after him). The United States Navy named the lifesaving inflatable vest it developed after the actress Mae West, known for her long platinum-blonde hair.
"The History of American Film 101" dioramas of tophatted W.C. Fields and "slapstick comedians" Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were not considered candidates for Doctor Frankenstein's experiments. Two heads are better than one was the motto of the spares of Tom Cruise, Sylvestor Stallone and Eddie murphy up for sale.
The company Asset Reliance Inc conducted the auction proceedings both at 7711 Beach Boulevard in Beuna Park and on the internet at Ebay, ensuring that the greatest numbers of movie memoribla collectors world-wide would be able to participate. This company really knows how to conduct an efficient auction, top prices were bid for the stars named.
Buena Park is next to Disneyland and that, of course, is the major tourist destination in the Orange County area. The city is clean and well-run, the streets are in excellent condition, a rarity in California. All is not lost for the city, entertainment wise. Medieval Times-Dinner & Tournment features Knights on armored chargers jousting, and the food is served by comley serving persons of the long-haired gender. Pirates Dinner Adventure serves up pirates boiled or fried. Knotts Berry Farm so named after the farming family that settled this part of Orange County and later opened a restaurant as the megalopolis grew up around them and surrounded their land. The Silver Bullet mono-rail coaster will leave you dangling as it loops it's course around the park.
For the tired tourist family after a Disneyday there is the Krikorian Premier Theatre to relax and enjoy a movie.
Now that the Movieland Wax Museum has joined many of the legendary locations that the "Hollywood" in our imaginations
pictured like the Brown Derby Resturaunt and Schwab's Drugstore (now the site of an office building) we can think about the reasons for it's decline.
The youngest movie star featrured was Leonardo DiCaprio who is now thirty-two years old. To attract the prime audience of movie-goers (the twelve to thirty-five year segment of the population purchases the majority of movie admissions) you have to have current favorites that they would be interested in seeing, as they are pictured going about the city in the relationship magazines. The public's choices are constantly changing as it's concsiousness moves from one media season and sequence of promotions to another. There must be some way to satisfy fans curiousity about their favorite stars of all medias without chasing and hounding them as they go about their shopping and Starbucking.
Is there a place for a Movieland-type of attraction in our cultural future? The various Halloween "Haunted Houses" that are constructed in vacant retail stores for a month every September and October indicates that the public has an interest in being entertained beyond sitting on the couch and having whatever it is they are watching served-up to them at a clickers command.
