1) Toothbrush
7) Dental Wax:
- While this is a no-brainer, it is one of the most important tools that you need to care for braces. It will be a challenge to keep your teeth clean, especially after meals or even after snacks. Braces are like a magnet for food, it feels like everything and anything will get stuck. So brush well! An electronic toothbrush makes this work a lot easier.
- Also make sure to invest in some whitening toothpaste to keep those teeth pearly white.
- Tip: Swish your mouth with water after eating; it might save you some embarrassing moments.
- These little things are one the best things you can keep with you to keep your teeth clean, especially in between them. These small colorful cleaners fit anywhere; keep one or two in your pocket or purse. After eating I always use these to clean up any food residue on my teeth.

- The DenTex ones come in three different sizes, based on spacing between your teeth: tight, medium, and wide. GUM's Go-Betweens are also a great brand to use.
- The mini disposable toothbrush, no water required. Really don't need to say much more about this.
- Using regular floss with a floss threader takes time and practice. It can be a bit annoying, but it needs to be done. Superfloss doesn't require a floss threader and is a lot less time consuming.
- For those out there that hate to floss, the Waterpik was invented. They come in small and large devices, from many different companies. A reservoir delivers water through the tip with pulsations of up to 1200 a minute.
- Off the bat I'm going to say that Colgate's Phos-Flur Anti-cavity fluoride mouth wash, is the best one out there. It's the one proven to keep teeth from forming white spots from braces. You can Google the images; you do not want to deal with that. Also this product might not always be available over-the-counter, if you don't see it ask the pharmacy. It doesn't require a prescription, and can be bought online as well.
- Fair warning this wash is a bit pricey at around $12 a bottle.
7) Dental Wax:
- The best thing known to all brace faces around the world. This itty bitty thing is hands down one of the products you want right off the bat. It relieves pain from canker sores, scrapes, irritation on gums, cheeks, and lips caused by the braces. Stock up on these suckers!
